Bangarang Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 What does Star have to do with anything you just posted? 1
BuffaloHokie13 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 I believe the point is that Star is occupying blockers, which allows our LBs to play very disruptive football. 14

Brought in to eat blockers so the linebackers could do their jobs? What people have said all along? 3
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 (edited) If his job is to eat space, let LBs fly around hitting, he’s doing his job well. Complaining about Star is so week 1. We’re on to QB depth charts and the front office. Edited October 16, 2018 by Over 29 years of fanhood 3 2 1

And this shows that how? What it shows me is Milano and Edmunds are very good LBers. But hey glad we paid a Ton to a guy to eat up blocks. Phillips does it too and actually gets push and is paid 1/10th of Star
Drunken Pygmy Goat Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Somewhat misleading title, but I get it. He's not our only DT though. Replacing Alexander in the near future won't be easy.
fridge Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 (edited) Hey, only the second worst offense in 30+ years! Looks like Daboll is coaching exactly to the level we should have expected: Edited October 16, 2018 by fridge 1

That is a testament to the line as a whole, not just Star. Hughes, Murphy, and Lawson have all played well, and so have the tackles. 1

Nothing in this post gives me ANY indication how Star is doing. What is his PFF grade. His Disruptive Grade. Where is he ranking in all other DTs. Posting Milano and Edmunds stuff does nothing for me (Specially when this is WHY multiple picks where given up for Edmunds)

Our LB's are playing well because our DT's are keeping them clean. That's how NFL defenses work.

Phillips does it too and actually gets push and is paid 1/10th of Star Or you could watch him and realize this is exactly what is happening rather than criticizing something that is provable on tape. He's also doing the second part of the reason for signing him well, stuffing up the middle on pass plays so Hughes and Murphy can use their formidable speed rushing skills to get around the corner but not have the QB step up into a huge open pocket and escape that rush like what was happening the last couple years. 2

That's how NFL defenses work. Really that is how NFL defenses work. You mean Only in the NFL If an OL gets out to a LBer he is ineffective? i see Edmunds and Milano taking on Untouched OL every game, but that cant be they would be ineffective right

When Star takes 2 blockers up, then the backers can go attack.
Magox Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 You'd have to be a real nincompoop to not believe that Star is a contributing reason to allowing our defensive players the freedom to disrupt and make plays. The whole reason why we brought him in wasn't to make sacks or lots of tackles but to help collapse the pocket in pass rushing situations and eat up blockers for our playmakers to do what they do. And that is exactly what they've done thanks in part to Star. 2
