Now is his chance to reign Allen in and use the injury as a reason to sit him for a few weeks to watch Anderson prepare as the starter.

What is this actually going to do? He sees that Anderson prepares differently? How? He studies film? I'm guessing Allen already does this. Is anyone doubting Alen's commitment or how he prepares? No.

The value of Anderson is having him in Allen's ear WHILE ALLEN IS THE STARTER.

Not watching journeyman Derek Anderson play football.

I do, too...he's looking more and more comfortable and he's self-correcting the obvious mistakes. That's why he needs to play.

Agreed - sitting him for a week, regardless of elbow severity might be helpful, unless the elbow is absolutely 100%. The only harm here is Anderson is not ready to play Sunday, and we all know what will happen with Peterman in there.

So you want him to sit against one of the worst defenses in football and come back against the Patriots?

Well there goes the playoffs ?.  Looks like 4 weeks minimum for a mild sprain.  Who knows how bad his injury is though.

looks a lot worse than Mariotas tbh. he was in serious pain on the sideline

i think he will be out 4-5 weeks. so much for developing our rookie QB. We all knew this was coming. Beane ignored the oline for 2 years and this is the result.

You honestly think Anderson is ready to play by Sunday?

This QB has been around long enough to have seen everything and if they simplify the offense he should do okay.  Mostly all he should be doing is handing off to McCoy, Ivory in a limited passing scheme. Daboll's offense wasn't going to fool defenses anyway so reduce it to round 20 scripted plays with dump offs, screens to Shady.

With Anderson running the offense we will soon see what an experienced NFL QB can do with this surrounding cast. All he really need do is not pull a Peterman and not turn the ball over.

Yes. There have been qb's play with less time to prepare. I think Thad Lewis played with 7 day prep when he played here a number of years ago

Anderson is vet, he should be able to pick up the game plan that's installed this week. He obviously won't know the entire playbook but should know enough. Other guys on offense will need to step up and help with calls at the line

Should be fired immediately if he does. A total joke and laughingstock.

disagree. Anderson was brought in to mentor.

Peterman at this point is the sacrificial lamb.

I do not mind if he starts against the Colts, who are nearly as dysfunctional as we are.
this talk of firing is too much for me.

sounds like a Monday after a bitter loss

The play he was injured on was a routine pass play. It happens. I for one salute the NFL for their excellent focus on player safety. It's going so well for them.

Not to mention a late hit leading with his helmet.

There is now concern for a UCL sprain with structural damage.

The test is called a milking sign, and the immediate reaction to pain indicates there is damage to the UCL, which is also commonly called the Tommy John ligament for its frequent reconstruction in baseball pitchers.

Allen remained in the game for one play after the hit that injured his elbow and on that pass winced in pain. Throwing a football would certainly stress this ligament, and his reaction after the pass is another sign of the injury.

The week-to-week prognosis Bills coach Sean McDermott gave may be typical optimistic "coach speak.” And McDermott is not entirely inaccurate. It will be week-to-week, but a good outcome for the Bills would be a return by Allen some time in November.

Throwing, especially deep and when driving the ball, relies on the UCL. If a doctor pulling on his thumb caused extreme pain, the forces when throwing a deep out, which are much greater, would be problematic for Allen.

I’m not saying Allen needs Tommy John surgery, as there can be partial tears and sprains that can heal with rest and rehab. But it won’t happen this month.

It is rare for a quarterback to need Tommy John surgery, as a QB’s throws involves different forces than a pitcher.

Former Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme in 2007 is the most recent example I can think of in the NFL, while dozens of major league pitchers have undergone the surgery this year alone.

I’m not ready to say Allen’s season is done or that he needs surgery. But he will be hard-pressed to play the next few weeks based on his reaction to the test on his elbow.

Who's ready for one month of Derek Anderson?

Our QB play can't get any worse.

A veteran QB should show whether the WRs and OL are issues, or if it was all on the QB.

Sitting on the bench might help Allen.

Im bummed for the kid but I’d be a lot more upset for the team if he was throwing for 250 yds per game. Since he’s not, he can sit and absorb and watch Anderson lead them to about 13 pts per game and hopefully more passing yardage.
