Expand I wasn't a Bernie guy in 2016, but I preferred him to Clinton -- until I was forced to interact with his most based supporters at multiple CA events I attended with my significant other who is very involved in local politics. She's pretty left wing, yet because she supported Clinton over Sanders she'd get the most vile hateful things screamed at her (usually while handing out cookies to the very same people) by Bernie supporters. It was just gross, and non stop, especially at any "unity" type event. Part of me though wants 2020 to be Bernie v Trump to settle (for at least a generation) the socialism v capitalism debate at the polls. If Biden can't escape the vortex of the SpyGate blowback (which I doubt he'll be able to do, but he might), then I think Sanders goes right back to the top. The worst things the DNC could do though for their supporters is run Biden in the general -- which is why that's what they're angling to do. 2
