Watson's Wednesday Media Day Presser:

ORCHARD PARK – As the Bills get ready for yet another tough road test in Houston this weekend, they continue to walk the fine line between trying to figure out a way to beat the Texans, while also taking baby steps in their development of rookie quarterback Josh Allen.

That’s no easy task because the performance from that position is so vital to the outcome of NFL games. Thus, the question coach Sean McDermott has to ask himself is this: Crafting game plans focused heavily on running the ball and limiting the burden Allen carries in the passing game may be the best way to win, but will that stunt his progress in a year where his growth and maturation really should be the main goal?

“It’s interesting because right now they’re 2-3 and they’ve won a couple scrappy games like we would win last year,” said former center Eric Wood, who was in Buffalo Sunday to see the victory over Tennessee. “They’re thinking, let’s see if we can keep the recipe going a little longer and see if we can make another playoff appearance and see where it goes.”

NFL refs union head on criticism: 'We call what we're told to call'

By Tom Pelissero - NFL.com reporter

Amidst a wave of recent complaints from coaches and players about officiating, the head of the NFL Referees Association says officials have continued to grade out with a high percentage of correct calls while adapting on the fly to an evolving emphasis on roughing the passer rules.

"There will be issues with officiating. There always are," NFLRA executive director Scott Green told me by phone Wednesday night. "The issue from our standpoint is: We call what we're told to call. It's how well is that being interpreted? And how well is that being presented to us? To the extent that they're trying to get video out, when you start making changes in the season -- obviously, I'm not saying that shouldn't be done, but it does require adjustment and it seems like we're doing some adjusting this year.

While roughing the passer penalty numbers are up (50 through Week 5, compared to 29 at this time in 2017), overall penalty numbers are in line with historical standards -- and actually down from a year ago (16.55 per game, compared to 17.05 in 2017).

The NFLRA website touts the accuracy of officials, saying an official who works 14 regular-season games is evaluated on nearly 2,200 snaps, and in 2014, they got it right 95.9 percent of the time. (The NFL does not release such statistics publicly.) Officials are graded on a weekly basis, receive a midseason report and are evaluated for potential postseason assignments, including the Super Bowl, based on their performance over the season.

Vegas is hating the bills right now. Some big casinos not even offering a money line bet

The bills and 10 points is the bet in my opinion.

Game will be similar to the green bay game except the bills will take points any chance they ( no Allen heaves at the end of a half) and Watson is more prone to mistakes (sacks) than Rodgers

There's something fishy about that line. I have no idea why it's so high, and I suspect most will take the Bills. As a guy who's worked in a book for over a decade, I don't like what it portends for us.

We shall see.

PFT’s Week Six Picks

Bills at Texans

MDS’s take: This should be an easy home win, as J.J. Watt makes Josh Allen‘s life miserable

MDS’s pick: Texans 17, Bills 3.

Florio’s take: It’s easy to ask how these teams are each 2-3, but for very different reasons.

Florio’s pick: Texans 23, Bills 10.

the Texans started 0-3 and then needed OT to beat 2 lackluster squads.... that ten point spread is absurd.

the betting public feels different  Media said the Bills were the worst team in the NFL and the money is being bet that way.

This 10 point spread seems high until you realize we either win or get absolutely destroyed.

2 wins.

3 blowout losses.

You have a defense that looks to be finding its identity as one of the best D’s in the NFL vs an Offense that has a horrific OL, but a lot of skill position talent that’s put up big yardage all year.  Problem is, our offense has looked epically bad. Can we fix that?

If if I had to guess, this game follows a similar trend for us so far this year.  We either win, or get blown out.

unfortunately, the Bills are taking 61% of the money.. And the line went up even with more money being bet on the Bills?? not a great sign for the Bills

In this episode, Sal Maiorana and Leo Roth take a deep dive into the Bills' signing of QB Derek Anderson to serve as Josh Allen's mentor. Also, some discussion on the Buffalo defense and how it important it is for that unit to be spot on every week if the Bills hope to win games.
