He hustles, plays good defense, and can hit shots. I’d take Tyus and Buddy over Howard and Tyus all day right now. I want Howard to return to form just as much as anyone, BTW. I’ve seen spurts from him, but he has looked worse and worse as of late. I think injury plays a role, but I also think FH has character issues that make it difficult for him to overcome adversity. Put the best 5 on the floor. He has definitely grown and can shoot the rock but I think there is a reason Jimmy Boeheim only gave him 4-5 minutes vs Duke and V Tech, Clemson ... he knows he will struggle vs an aggressive defense rn so he picks his spots to play him

However it highlights the issue with Cuse. Battle, Brissett, and Hughes are a great 3 headed monster to lead a team. However there is no answer for the other positions. I like Dolezaj's willingness to take a charge. I wish he was that aggressive on offense though. Last year he was all hustle all the time this year it seems like he isn't going 1000 miles and hour. 21 minutes ago, Buffalo716 said: He has definitely grown and can shoot the rock but I think there is a reason Jimmy Boeheim only gave him 4-5 minutes vs Duke and V Tech, Clemson ... he knows he will struggle vs an aggressive defense rn so he picks his spots to play him Buddy is much better than Trevor Cooney at this point in there careers and Cooney got a ton of run. I'm not saying Buddy needs to play 30+ minutes but he gives at least a deep threat you have to respect. I wondered last night at the game if he is harder on Buddy pt wise than other players. Imo Buddy has played better than Jalen Carey this year and should get all of those minutes but I understand they are trying Carey as more of a pg. I was really high on this team in the preseason and start of the season but the trip to MSG showed some serious flaws in the makeup of the team and I think we continue to see that. I thought by now they would have figured it out and they have at times but consistency is sorely lacking. 1 hour ago, Johnny Hammersticks said: You have to bench Howard when he is playing like he currently is. He’s been flat out terrible in every facet of the game, and his effort out there (especially on defense) is deplorable. I agree we need Howard to play well, but if he continues to be a detriment to the team...roll with Battle and Boeheim. JB pulls Battle for Howard (seemingly to give Tyus a brief rest) down by 1 point and look what happened?! Two quick turnovers by Howard and very quickly we are out of the game again. I don’t know what happened to Howard between last season and this one, but he really, really sucks right now. Also, the getting over the injury excuse is growing old. I have a theory (completely unsubstantiated). Howard's terrible attitude has caused problems on this team. Watching the guys when Buddy is on the floor and they are high fiving each other. Not so much when Frank is out there. I also wonder if the early season struggles where everyone though "just wait for Frank" went to his head. Whatever it is this team will go as he goes as you said earlier but I would love to see Jimmy give more quick hooks and long benchings until guys decide to give 100% effort at all times. I don’t know of any specific “turmoil” caused by FH this season, but anyone who followed this thread in the past knows that Frank caused a lot of problems during his sophomore season. A lot of people speculated that FH was one of the reasons that Hop jumped ship for UW when he did. Frank did some stupid *****, divided the team and contributed to losing a major 5* recruit....Hop wanted Frank kicked off the team and Boeheim didn’t. Certainly not the only reason Hop left when he did, but those “in the know” know that Hop and JB had a major, major disagreement about Frank. I’ve gone from thinking this team is going to live and die by Frank Howard to thinking (especially after watching the Buddy-Tyus tandem over the last few games) we should just move on. As you mentioned, there is a noticeable difference in the team when Frank is out there. His attitude sucks, he doesn’t hustle, and he doesn’t play defense. Start Tyus at PG, Buddy at SG, and have Jalen Carey spell Tyus at the point. Hughes can play SG too.

He was crucial to our tourney run last year. I’m certainly not rooting against him. Merely thinking about worst case scenario I guess. row_33
Virginia looking good at Chapel Hill rare play as UNC forced a turnover leading to a 2 Heel chase for an easy layup, but the shot clock ran out on UVA before UNC could secure possession

Girard is not a true PG, but I believe he could run the point if JB needed him to. But that would be taking away from his strength as a spot shooter. I think Buddy will be too valuable to keep off the floor, and can play the 2 or 3 if needed. Don’t forget about Brycen Goodine who could push for minutes at G. Been hearing great things about him. I don’t know what to make of Washington. Seems like he was recruited over when they landed Carey. I think it would be in his best interest to transfer, honestly. Further, the season and the ACC tournament "matter."

Did you watch the entire game? Virginia did something unusual last night. They started Kihea Clark, who is 5'9", as part of a three guard lineup. They quickly went to their usual two guard set, Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy, whose "dimensions" are what I have posted. Jerome, at 6'5", is their point guard. Interesting you bring up White though. I thought he singularly screwed up the last three UNC possessions.

I know you know that Howard tore his acl and is redshirting because he wasn’t fully back.. I do believe he would be playing the backup point over Carey this season... Carey is in the doghouse and looks way more like a slasher than a true PG rn Howard may lack those physical gifts but he can run a true Point... the staff compared him to a Tyler Ennis type... not the same caliber but same style... that’s a true pg IF Carey improves his natural PG skills by a lot than I can see Howard having little time on the floor.. but if Carey is lookin like this year , next season , there will be playing time for Washington I know everybody loved the Carey recruitment but he’s been pretty bad so far... and yes yes I know scoop and Frank struggled... but let’s be real you don’t like frank... And everyone had lots of hope For Carey i do hope Carey figures it out, sooner than later ?? like tourney time Edited February 12, 2019 by Buffalo716
Johnny Hammersticks
Agree to disagree. I think HW is odd man out next season with Carey and perhaps JG3 getting time ahead of him at PG. Especially with Goodine in the mix. Again, wouldn’t be stunned to see HW transfer.
