They need to ban signs next, it disenfranchises and discriminates against the blind.

That article is ludicrous.  IF they are sooo worried about triggering issues then:

1) remove all white males

2) get rid of anything that has a scent (perfume)

3) not use anything but natural light

4) keep the room cool (probably too cold for the women left in the audience)

5) etc..

In essence,  there are ALWAYS things that upset those with sensory issues.

If I were a student at the University of Manchester, I suspect I just wouldn't go to events sponsored by the Student Union.

"Union officer Sara Khan said traditional clapping can cause issues for students with autism, sensory issues or deafness."

Tell me .... how the !@#$ can a noise affect someone with deafness?

They think you're trying to communicate to them that they've got the clap. Can't blame them for getting upset

why wouldn't the sign language symbol for clapping not be actual clapping?  It would be universally recognized and interpreted as.....clapping.

Because clapping is auditory related and anything having to do with being able to hear is taboo in the deaf community.  I work in a deaf community so you can trust me on this.  Also there are deaf people and Deaf people.

This isn't even close to the worst thing I have seen/heard about related to deaf culture.
