I think you miss the point.  His age does not matter.  It will only make him more attractive to other teams (or more expensive to the Bills when the rookie contract is up).   You get a rookie for the life of the rookie contract, whether he is 20 or 23 at the start does not change that fact.

Because when you do pay him you are getting more of his prime for your money

the thing that sucks is if Allen is the real deal, we have the Derek Carr , Khalil Mack situation , where you just can't afford both.  It may not make sense to trade up for two first rounders in the same draft for this reason.

I thought the raiders issue was the lack of cash flow. Between contracts, Gruden's contract, and relocation costs. I thought they weren't sure if the cash flow was their to put away for all the guaranteed money Mack would cost.

Exactly. The issue isn’t affording both contracts. The issue is the Raiders.

Funny how simple that is, but yet so complicated and hard for so many around here to understand.

We have a lot of instant grat crowd here now......

Ppl go wtf when McD keeps talking about it being a young team......he is talking about guys like Allen, Edmunds, Dawkins, Milano, Tre, etc etc...the CORE guys...the older guys on this team are just interchangable parts.

Do people hate a player just because of the school he went to ?

I think we can go more shallow than that at times.

The difference is Mack is a pass rusher with a 100+ million dollar deal

Kuechley is on a 5 year 61 million dollar deal and he is like the highest paid MLB

we can afford both

Exactly I can't see MLB's commanding more than 10-12 million a year. A great MLB can be an integral part to your run defense, a major part in defending the short and intermediate passing game while also adding in a little to your pass rush. However they aren't primary pass rushers and the market for them isn't too crazy.

It's the same for all players and in all positions.  Teams hold on to a few of the draft picks from four years ago, the ones they really want to keep.  This year it looks like the keepers (past the end of the rookie contracts) will be Allen, Edmunds, and maybe Harrison.  How many from the past few drafts will they want to keep?  White, Milano, Dawkins...?  This dismal drafting performance will be good news in a couple of years when the Bills are able to let most of their subpar players walk, if they can get good offers elsewhere, or stay for low-end veteran contracts.  Teams that drafted better than Buffalo will have a much harder time keeping all their players moving off their rookie contracts.  The real crunch will start when the accumulated keeper players from several drafts in a row, all get to the new contract point at the same time.

We've arguably had exceptional drafts this season and last, compared to previous years. White, debateably, should have been DROY last year. Milano isn't premier but for a sophomore the kid is a solid backer, and Dawkins is currently graded as one of the top tackles in the league (especially with ESPNs new fancy OL grading...). Our current draft class is already the top contributors on our roster beyond many vets. While that isn't saying much given our team at the moment, it bodes well for the future if these guys continue to develop. Do you really want them to get rid of Taron and Neal as well? Those guys are steals for the picks we got them at and there sophomore contracts will be levied appropriately pending they don't have a breakout year and lead the league in INTs.

But I agree, teams that draft well have issues retaining all players due to cap constraints and player contract demands.

Terrifying thought.

What if Dawkins becomes a dominant LT? Even more frightening.

With all the doom and gloom, the dangers of having an elite LT, QB, and MLB is really being overlooked.

Don't forget our top DB, too.

In all honesty though, you can retain all of these players if handled appropriately, and contracts are tiered accordingly. The more terrifying thought is not having a dominant player at any of those positions...

1 - Edmunds has been one of the NFL’s best rookies

A Sean McDermott defense is at its best when it’s built around a rangy and athletic middle linebacker. Panthers’ linebacker Luke Kuechly broke out as one of the best defenders in the league under McDermott’s tutelage.

Buffalo linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is now doing the same.

Don't you worry. If this happens, we'll trade him. See Peters and Glenn.

He’s been responsible in some way for I believe now 5 turnovers

Yep... and he is still learning.  He needs to stop getting sucked in by play action though.

Monster. I'll just keep referencing Micah Hyde , when asked about Edmunds in preparation for the Vikings (Week 3) , he said he's a future H.O.F, dead serious. Said his sideline to sideline speed is amazing, leadership and Never makes the same mistake twice..

This D will be elite for a long time
