Remember Ted Ginn when he first came into the league? He couldn't catch a cold, yet he was always open and man, he was fast. Many years later, he became a decent NFL receiver. He was never really a #1, and he never had the sure hands of a top receiver, but he has been around awhile and done okay. He's caught some balls and scored some nice touchdowns.

Could Robert Foster develop like Ted Ginn? It certainly is possible. It will take a lot of work on his part and dedication to the craft. But, like Ted Ginn, he will bounce around a lot of teams as a marginal talent and likely won't be here to allow us to enjoy the fruits of his labors.

Foster is Reilly's revenge.  Foster actually has mad #1 wideout skills, especially tracking the ball and avoiding drops.  Reilly cursed him when cut, thus the Foster suck.

Only way to undo the curse is to sign REILLY.  Anyone can see that!

Reily's Raiders - Reilly time.  The Reilly Rampage.  C'mon Beane - Foster wants to be able to catch again!  Give Brandon a chance!

Add a "0" after the "1"... Can he even be the 10th best receiver on the team? Behind everyone RB, FB, WR and DB! Dude can't track a ball in the air at all. Did you see him try to down that punt inside the 5?  It was comical. Should be packing groceries - nit on an NFL team.

He gets separation, he should get better over time assuming his hands are better than we have seen. #1 receivers get 8-10 targets a game, don't see that as his role.

Lots of trite answers in this thread based (mostly fairly) on Foster's play thus far.  Most people thought Jason Peters would never be any good either.  I'm willing to give the coaches the benefit of the doubt on this one and see if he can develop.  If he's a late bloomer and turns into even a solid #2 then it's a huge steal for the Bills.  If he never develops the skills, then they move on. It's not like his reps are coming at the expense of Andre Reed sitting on the bench.

That's not correct.  Peters' sheer athleticism in a man his size was impressive, but he didn't really have the speed or hands to be more than a low-end NFL TE which is why the Bills OL coach at the time convinced him to try out at OT ... and the rest is, as they said, history.

Maybe the posters who suggest that Foster switch to DB are on to something.

They are allowing their young players to develop through live experience, with that being said would it be possible the staff is trying to allow Robert Foster to get the necessary experience to become the number 1 receiver? It happened for a few players throughout the years.

What are your thoughts?

I think it's possible, if he works very very hard and improves both his route running and his abilities to catch, he might become a legit #3, a guy who excels at getting open deep and can make plays.

But most of the legit #1 WR in the league are the guys who have been honing their craft and learning to adjust and time leaps and use their hands to haul in the tough balls through 4 years in college.  Watch a legit #1 - an AJ Green, a Julio Jones, a Larry Fitzgerald - and ask if you see Foster developing to that point.  I suppose nothing is impossible, but he would have a long long long road.

His speed is obviously his greatest asset. He short arms the ball consistently, and defenses will quickly realize he’s not much of a threat to catch it. NFL teams have always been more than willing to give a shot to speedy WRs with suspect hands. It hardly ever works out.

Ted Ginn was a top 10 draft pick.

He still drops a ton of them

He can work on his hands, but I am not so sure he can learn to track the ball.  That seems innate - you got it or you ain't.  Sign Reilly!

That certainly doesn't preclude Foster from having the chance to do the same, now does it?

Good luck with that.     He rode the pine in college for a reason.

At this point I’d be content with him turning into anything more than a deep decoy.

He made a great play to save the pick, and then he made a terrible play to drop a 50 yarder. Call it a wash.

Of course not!! He’s currently about a 4th receiver on the worst WR group in the NFL. For some context there are currently 120 or so better NFL receivers. If our goal is to have the 120th best receiver in football as our top guy we need to make it a bigger priority. Foster doesn’t look like he belongs on an NFL roster and certainly not a guy near the top of a depth chart.

I guess that we are the same people that thought Nate Peterman was a viable starting option though so....you never know

Peterman isn't a viable starting option?    Didn't some folks in other threads say he has received a raw deal and just needs another shot?  ;-)

Are you guys describing Benjamin or Foster? I’m confused.

They said he can't catch so I get the confusion there but then they said he gets open that should of cleared it up for you ?

Kid has potential...long way to go, but he’s been beating DBs down field, so that’s a plus.  But he has to be able to have better ball tracking and still needs to polish his route tree before he can even be a regular contributor let alone a #1.
