GoodHands15 Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Alright someone has to bring me down from this upset fueled grandiose state....but with Bodine in I feel like there’s a chance we’ve significantly cut down the protection based snaps. If if that’s the case, and we can hold them to maybe 2-3 sacks a game, do we still really need to improve the o-line? I understand it’s extremely important. But boy, I would really love to spend that money and those picks at different positions.
NewEra Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Seemed like we were running a lot of double TE. Was that the case?

billspro Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Oline was solid today. I didn’t notice them which is a good thing.
Skins Malone Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) I still think you upgrade. Oline is a very unsexy pick. People dont get excited about it but its extremely important as you said. Edited September 24, 2018 by Skins Malone 2 1
Warcodered Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 It's a little early to be certain and there are a lot of levels between good and a train wreck.

But if some of these guys can keep it up and be consistent we may not have to allocate resources into a new Lg, C, RG and RT like we initially thought. Maybe just 2-3 of them, but at least 2. We need guys that can get open AND catch.

GoodHands15 Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 Yeah I didn’t think about compensating with the chips. Have to watch it back. Find some studs and watch JA run some spread. Shuuure
billspro Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Protecting Allen and finding him weapons should be the number one priority next offseason. Give him the best chance to be an elite QB. 1

Freddie's Dead Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Our running game was fairly anemic, outside Josh's scrambles. Note how few first downs we had in the 2nd half, and how we weren't able to crank out first downs once Daboll went conservative. The line needs to get better there. The pass blocking was good to very good, with only a couple breakdowns. They may be gellin', but Bodine > Groy at center, and we went downhill when Bodine went down. 1

Newhouse in as tackle eligible a lot too. If we think it's passable now, how about Marpet and Paradise in their and a OT taken in Rd2. WR #1 CB 3rd.

But boy, I would really love to spend that money and those picks at different positions. Sorry, but we really need to upgrade the OL. Right now, the worst aspect of the line is the run blocking. Last week, our most successful run play had 2 TE on one side, and we really only HAD one really successful running play. Romo commented several times that the Bills were showing they would run by using 2 TE and Holmes (best blocker of their WR) in. That's pretty limiting. Ivory, who got 20 rush attempts, managed a whole 2.8 ypc, and those were very hard fought 2.8 ypc. He got little help from our OL. It's very short sighted if we don't invest in some serious OL improvement. 1 1
GrizzReaper Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Yeah man as it stands we still need improvement on the line... They still can't run block. If the run blocking was better we would've continued to March down the field in the 2nd half at will... So if they address it then we can hopefully have a nice run game in the arsenal. As great a win as it was today we have to keep in mind all the turnovers we came away with... And I know it's stupid to play the well if this didn't happen or that game... But if we didn't get those turnovers early in the game and hang that lead on them this game could've been a bit uglier. Who knows maybe the O line continues to improve I hope they do... Hopefully our WRs remember how to actually catch the ball too that'd be just peachy. I don't wanna gripe about much they played a helluva game but as others have stated the run blocking is still lacking. 1
Domdab99 Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 I think I remember another thread about the OL not being that bad earlier this week.... Hmmmm.

Dadonkadonk Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 C, WR, RT, OLB , TE are the biggest needs on this team. I prefer a FA WR and C. Draft RT, OLB, DE, CB, TE in no particular order.
Doc Brown Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Our o-line played better today. There were still some breakdowns and one almost led to an Allen strip sack Vikings recovery. On the blitzes, Josh did a better job of getting rid of the ball and making pre snap adjustments. Our running game did okay considering the quality of their front 7. That straight down the field style Murphy and Ivory has suits this line well. I'm at least listening to trade offers for McCoy if I'm Beane. I'm hoping this line gels as the year goes on, but they're still below average and low on depth. We'll need to upgrade next year. 1
