WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 It wasn't perfect, and those illegal formation penalties certainly show it. But overall, this was a tremendous bounce back. His numbers would be even better if Benjamin and Foster didn't have a case of the dropsies. He managed the clock, he managed down and distance and he looked a lot more relaxed. I think we are going to keep seeing rookie mistakes all year, and gradual growth, and then I hope it's off to the races next year.
LeGOATski Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 He cost them a time out by not getting the play off in time down by the goal line... BUST

I hope the coaches sit him down and can even reference Jimmy G’s torn ACL. Not that it was a contact hit for SF, but just reminding him it’s better to punt than be out for the year. Yup. That one may be a highlight that’s rare in part because only some can do it, but also because you’ve got to be smarter than doing it unless it’s late in a playoff game. That’s not to knock him too hard. No harm no foul and that’s what you hope for in the “learning moments.” Low cost, and occasional reward even.
GoBills808 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 My favorite play of his was the 3rd and 9 bootleg that netted about 6 in the 4th quarter. He slid and stayed inbounds to keep the clock running down to 2 min warning. I have been saying this kid is going to be a super duper star since April and I shall continue to do so. 1

Guys generally just don't jump over dudes as a 22 yr-old QB. He owned his time on the field in the first half when it mattered. But as a rook, I was really impressed with his complete game situational awareness. Seems silly, but he knew every nuance to the game. The clock, pre snap penalties, and penalties that were committed against him. I know it's the least sexy situation, but the way he got the team to the line to draw...a delay of game before a punt...was just heady. Hell, I though they just might go for it the way he got them up there. He was also the first guy to tell the refs his 'fumble' was a forward pass. If he develops the same way upstairs as he does with his passing, we are in for a treat. he might have been coached up to take the shot if a certain look was there. but i agree, he looked to be poised, and he looked to be processing the information very well. he also got away with a couple today. the hurdle could have been bad (but instead was insane) and the strip sack could have gone for six the other way. overall, i loved his game today and was downright giddy at times! 19 minutes ago, Buffalo30 said: Though he should never do it again, his leap over Barr showed his teammates that he's willing to give it everything he has to win. That's gotta motivate his teammates. Now that it is clear this guy is a competitor and will leave 100% out on the field, others will start to follow. Looks like a leader to me. agreed. i also loved the stiff arm he put on barr later in the game. drew the horse collar penalty and added to the allen/barr highlight reel!

However telling the ref a pass was a pass was nothing.....of course he knew it was a pass, they called a pass in the huddle and then he threw it.
Wagon Circler Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Short throw accuracy, which was supposed to be a big issue, has been great. 2
Kelly the Dog Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 I loved the leap. I think it had a direct affect on the outcome of the game. He knew he needed those three yards. He took that chance at a moment that it really meant something. He's bigger than every running back in the league. Sure he can get hurt like anyone can and I don't want to see John do it unnecessarily but that was fantastic. 1 minute ago, Wagon Circler said: Short throw accuracy, which was supposed to be a big issue, has been great. All day. All different kinds of throws. He was on fire.
