McD had them well prepared and the slack all week with the point spread and being considered the worst team in the league, really fueled this team beyond expectations. WhickedWilliams Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Need this style offense and he looks like the real deal!

He needs to be in Allen’s ear about taking maximum time off the clock when it suits our purpose. Saw precious little of that in the third quarter. Was much better in the fourth, but we gave the Vikings three minutes of extra time in the third by not milking the clock. Coaches like Belichick manage the clock with leads as early as the first quarter just for comparison sake. That said, great job of play calling. Too bad Josh was hurt by some key drops, too. I thought he was often getting the play in late. Josh had to look over the defense starting at 10 seconds to go on play clock.
26CornerBlitz Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 He's officially be renamed Brain Daboll after the brilliant game plan. Let's hope the excellent play design and execution continue to keep opposing defenses off balance.

This made me feel like I was watching the Pats at times...again more parallels with Daboll. But the looks they try to give defenses always are borderline LOS issues. When they aren't, they seem to work well in packaging plays. I'm still geeking over the fake screen pass TD to Croom. Just like @Kmart128 said, it's amazing what success with the run game and screen pass can open up when used effectively.
26CornerBlitz Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 We saw a regression from Daboll today IMO with not enough emphasis on the running game to set up the pass. 2 1

Way more than that. A few interesting passes to the slants /short runs in the 1st quarter, including a few double back sets. Then it seemingly was deep passes galore, no hot outlets for Allen in case of (the many) blitzes or to dump off. It made little sense. Sure Josh has the arm for it but even on 3rd and short the wideouts were all going deep. What about one checkdown guy? And I recall 2 designed QB runs. One on a 1st and 20, one when down 19 or 22-0. 1

Livinginthepast Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I thought today was a really dumb game plan from the offense. The Packers have a great pass rush, we knew that going in but the Daboll seems to have thought that somehow the O Line could deal with it. There should have been way more screens, quick slants, hitches or shovel passes to avoid this. Instead they played into the Packers hands by pushing Allen into throwing deep balls with little time to set up. Allen took a huge beating because of this, with sacks, hurries and knock downs after the throws. The Bills receivers just cannot get any separation from Dbs and they have difficulty with the zip Allen puts on the ball (judging by more drops today). Cannot stand that we constantly seem unprepared for teams whose strengths we know. Just plain dumb.
Jay_Fixit Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 And the first 3rd and 1, Daboll should have called play action. I’m tired of the up the middle crap into the teeth of the defense. Could have started out with a better drive.

Daboll is going to have different game plans and evaluate what works and doesn't with these guys. Talent wise most of it won't work. If anyone thinks the Offensive talent is anywhere close to taking this team to the playoffs well that isn't going to happen. For all those that want to run run run all I got to say is if you take JA rushing stats out I don't think the Bills RBs are averaging 3.5 yard per carry. I'm not praising Daboll just stating that this is a very bad offense with a raw rookie QB. Prepare for it.
Gray Beard Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 The NFL has morphed into a quick pass league. Don’t hold the ball for more than a second or two. Don’t let he defense ever get close enough for a sack. That’s why these old, immobile QBs can still play. Long passing routes with double moves are so five years ago. Daboll has to get with the modern game plan. 1
Kelly the Dog Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 As clever as it was last week it was predictable and awful this week. 1
GunnerBill Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 (edited) When your line can't block and you QB can't process fast and get the ball out then it doesn't leave many plays in the playbook worth calling. I do wonder if we have a wide receiver bubble screen though. I see other teams run that play effectively every week. Edited September 30, 2018 by GunnerBill

Pine Barrens Mafia Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I think Daboll needs to call all short stuff to start the game, quick hitting stuff. Nothing over 10 yards. That and runs. Get things moving a little bit.

Except one WR screen to Holmes, who is known for being elusive and shifty and breaking tackles WTF?! There were no screens I recall.

Then don't call long developing routes that call for the QB to work through progressions that have him holding the ball. 1
