It's typically not a mod thing to pass judgement on the quality of threads that are vaguely football related and moderately civil. 

The poster who started a thread may delete or (I believe) lock it

Threads have been "starved of oxygen" before by people refraining from posting in it, and quietly PMing others suggesting they do likewise
