26CornerBlitz Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Now 0-2 on the season, the Buffalo Bills have seen both sides of the ball underperform in their two losses. Might the Bills have the talent and potential to improve on the defensive side of the ball -- as we saw in the second half against the Chargers? What is the key to doing all that? Joe Buscaglia and Matthew Fairburn discuss that at length in the mid-week episode, along with how the Bills stack up against the Minnesota Vikings.
BobChalmers Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Given the importance of a 20-year-old rookie MLB to the defense - not to mention Horrible Harry on the line, there's really not much question they can (and probably will) improve with experience is there??
ctk232 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 (edited) Any improvements we see this season will be a result of scheme changes, and approaching teams differently each week - so mostly coaches decisions. There's very little player development that could actually occur given our current cap space, and roster. Next year or so? We'll hopefully see improvement from the young guys - outside of our safety tandem, we do have solid young talent that we can see take the next step (Edmunds, Phillips, but also White and Milano for sophomores). Unfortunately, the rest of the defense is aging closer to the vet side of things and unless we make some more young additions, our defense could be seeing a few too many holes to fill at once, very soon. bigK14094 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Mostly no where to go but up from where they are....so the answer has t o be yes. 1
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Did someone really ask the question if there’s potential to improve? 1
Formerly Allan in MD Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Overall, yes. Rookies in key positions will improve. Cornerback will remain a bumpy ride.
SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Why do you read this trash by clueless click bait “reporters”
BuffaloRush Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Interesting thoughts from Joe and Matt. They said that performances on offense and defense have largely been around average. The weakspot on defense was Edmunds and Gaines. The weakspot on offense is Allen. The OL protection hasn’t been great but it’s far from the disaster we’d think it is.
SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 DOOMED I tell ya. Zero chance for improvement. We might as well forfeit every game. 1

The most important player on this defense should be markedly better in a few weeks, making everyone around him better.
OldTimeAFLGuy Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 (edited) ...ABSOLUTELY no faith whatsoever in Frazier's ability as a DC.....has shown zero ability to craft a formidable game plan or ability/willingness to adjust or counter punch going right back to pre-season..... Big Turk Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 No brainer yes. Edmunds is being targeted right now in the passing game but as the season goes on he should improve every week. Once he gets comfortable with getting the defense in the right situation and gets used to the NFL game the D should improve quite a bit.

It's the point of internet publishing. Did people used to say "why do you read this trash by a clueless "reporter" who is trying to help his company sell newspapers?"? (other than Sully, I mean...)/

Agree. I believe they canned the best coach they had on that side of the ball during the off-season.

That's not debatable. And sometimes he does get a nice pocket. But there have been too many pass-pro breakdowns on the line as well. And they're not opening holes for runners. Overall, I think "disaster" isn't a terribly inaccurate work for the performance of our OL.

I hope so - he's been given A LOT for any rookie, no matter how league ready he is. I wish we had more efficacious data here, but we certainly will in a few games. Here's to hoping, but I think you're right he'll be markedly better than where he is at now. Just don't think it will translate to considerable effect on this season is all.

When the light goes on for those 2 alone there will be a notable difference in how the D performs & then with who ever they can get in next years draft to fortify what they have not to mention with the amount of cap space they will have to incise some FA's i think it can go no where but up from here !!
