This whole thing is such a mess and this is going to turn out to be a terrible decision. It was a lose lose call and both outcomes are going to be brutal. At least with Peterman, he takes the lumps and you ride through this crap year knowing that next year is when it all begins. The whole organization looks stupid and if they ruin this kid this year, they won't return in 2019......

It had to happen. I don't know what happens with Peterman once the real games start but he just implodes. Unless the play that's called goes exactly as designed and he's able to do his drop, setup and throw all on cue, he crumbles. He doesn't seem to have a whole lot of ability to scramble or improvise... and Allen does. And Allen just has that mentality that he's gonna make a play on every down, which means he's gonna make some mistakes and throw some picks but you gotta let him take his lumps and get experience. Trial and error is a good way to learn. He'll figure out a lot of what NOT to do while gaining valuable experience in seeing different defensive fronts and becoming more familiar with them.

 

One way they can help the kid out is to get the run game going. Seriously, go back to what they've done over the past few seasons. Extra OL and hand the rock to McCoy a buncha times. Gotta find a way to soften up the opposing DL so when they do throw, he'll actually have time. Not sure what Daboll was trying to do last Sunday but if I'm him, I'm coming up with a straightforward/simplified plan that includes some wrinkles from his college game to keep it easy for him in his first start. I don't expect them to send him out there and tell him to throw it 50 times.

 

And Peterman really left them no choice. I'm starting to wonder if Peterman starting is the reason the team came out so flat and uninspired last week. They've gone through pre-season and camp and all that and maybe most of them just feel like Allen is the guy that's actually gonna take shots and try to make some big plays happen whereas Nate seems perfectly keen on just taking whatever the defense gives him (which wasn't much) or trying to push the ball down the field but without the ability to zip it in there. Instead he floats it right to the other team. Starting him again ran the risk of alienating a large part of the locker room and further maddening the fan-base. 

 

Not sure if this is all part of the plan or maybe the plan is being rushed but, at this point it's clear that Allen does give them a better chance to move the ball and win some games.

 

And I swear to Christmas if Allen hits Benjamin right square in the numbers and the dude drops it again I'm gonna tie KB's shoelaces together so he falls on his face the next time he stands up.

You would think that if this coaching staff knew what they were doing that this would have happened already.

 

Don't get me wrong here guys as I'm not championing Nate Peterman as I think he is probably the very worst Buffalo Bills QB ever. I just don't want to see that rookie QB ruined! Peterman sucks and if the team still had AJ McCarron or even Paxton Lynch, Matt Moore I'd say start them and let the rookie sit and learn.

Not being a homer....but his mental toughness has to be off the charts....I can’t remember such adversity faced by a rookie...everyone telling you you have the talent but you basically suck....telling you you sucked in college and will suck in the nfl....getting old tweets dug up and facing that....he has handled it all very well....I think he has the mental toughness part signed sealed and delivered....i hope he can succeed.

OTAs, training camp...practice and prep for opening game and we bench our starter after 1 game....brilliant.....was Peterman really the best QB on the roster?

There is a need to sign someone. You literally cannot play Peterman going forward should something unforeseen happen to 17.

If this report is true, then this tells me McD believed all along that Josh was ready, but because Nate didn't give him enough of a reason to start Josh OVER Peterman, he basically needed to start Nate in order to be a man of his word. He said whoever earned that right, and throughout the Pre-Season, Peterman *did* in fact earn that right. 

 

We can say all we want that none of us liked him or we knew he was going to be terrible, blah, blah, blah....in the end Peterman didn't do anything to justify taking the starting job away from him, from his first pass and Pre-Season game all the way through the last Pre-Season game. I can't figure out why Nate can be that good to be soooooooo bad when the lights come on for real - but no doubt he was and is....

 

This tells me McD knew Josh could play right away and probably wanted to start him right away, but as I said, he needed to keep his word to keep his credibility with his team to insure the locker room stayed tight for the season. IF this is true, then good for McD willing to admit he needs to change course and let the Rook go for the year and learn on the job. Experience is the best teacher.

I have no idea what the coaches were thinking when they named him starter just as I didn't when they elevated him last season for the Chargers' game.
