Hapless Bills Fan Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Best: I would have to give that to the Vikes. They weren't the best offensively, they weren't the best defensively, but I thought they looked the most solid overall. Cousins looked like he might be an upgrade on Keenum. Their D made Garoppolo look bad, and I don't think Garoppolo is bad. Worst: Three guesses, first 2 don't count. Us of course. Biggest surprise: This is tough. Tie for me between Tampa Bay and 'Zona, so let's call it "good surprise/bad surprise". Tampa Bay is self explanatory: Fitz outdueling Brees, seriously? Bwahahahaha!. 'Zona: based upon preseason and coaching I thought 'Zona might have a legit chance to do something, not if they keep playing like that. It wasn't that they looked awful; Bradford didn't stink up the joint, Larry Fitz was Larry Fitz, they didn't allow Smith to light up their D like a pinball machine. But their OL and D were both worse than expected and they just overall looked "meh". I know, I know, preseason.
North Buffalo Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Gotta give to KC and Mahomes tore the chargers a new one.
Royale with Cheese Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Tampa is definitely the biggest surprise to me.
dpberr Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Teams surprise until Week 4 when every team has plenty of "tape" to dissect. That's why I'm not on the Mahomes is Favre! and Fitzpatrick for MVP! fan trains. Biggest surprise IMO: The inability of the Steelers to put away the Browns despite given numerous chances. Biggest Non-Surprise: The Packers are the worst team in the NFL if Aaron Rodgers isn't playing. That entire franchise is one injury from NFL armageddon because the entire game plan and budget *is* Aaron Rodgers.
CommonCents Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Best: Patriots. They are going to be a problem again this year for the AFC worst: Us surprise: Tampa/Watson, Fitz was amazing, Evans looked faster. Watson looked horrible against the Pats, he needs Fuller back and some better play calling. Running around like yesterday and he is going back on IR sooner than later.

Seriously, never bet the Steelers away. Browns were an underthrown INT away from winning. They should start Mayfield. The Browns are a wildcard contender with competent QB play. The tide’s turning in this league. I liked most of what I saw from the Browns, Chiefs, Bears. Teams definitely trending in the right direction. Chiefs look like they’ve arrived, Bears look like they should be wildcard competitive, Browns are probably a year away still. I didn’t like what I saw from the Jaguars, Texans, or Titans. Not sure what to make of the Buccaneers and Giants. Edited September 10, 2018 by eanyills

Just clarification, not looking for "MVP trains" or season predictions, just who/which teams you thought played best, worst, or were biggest surprise. Agree with your take on GB. Aaron Rodgers *is* that franchise. If only they'd field a defense. I'm not sure I can agree on Big Ben/Steelers as the biggest surprise. Roeth is still great, but he's starting to build up a history of stinky games.
BuffaloHokie13 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Best: I'm not saying they're the best team in the league, but I came away very impressed with the Redskins. Also, Aaron Rodgers is better than at least 8 teams by himself. Worst: Hard to consider anyone other than the Bills here, though I do think we are a better team with Allen under center. Titans could be in for a rough season if Mariota is out and Gabbert is in. Surprise: has to be the Bucs and Fitzy. He's going to throw 4 INTs next week though. He did it in 2016 against us. Threw for almost 400 yards and never made the mistake we were all waiting for him to make. Then the next week against the Chiefs he threw for 188 yards and 6 INTs.

In regards to MVP Trains, I wasn't singling you out specifically, just a general opine on the the national media lovefest for Mahomes and Fitz after one game. Remember how the Bills always started out strong in September during the drought and then seemingly hit a concrete wall around the fourth game? It's because teams now had game film to analyze for weeks. At that point tendancies, habits and sticking to a script become liabilities. Before long, Mahomes will go to the well one too many times on a predictable route and Fitz's habits will again result in the most ill-timed INTs.
