Crazier things have happened.
The Red King Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Disappointing. At least the defense would have had to play honest with Allen in there and Shady would have room to run. I like Peterman, he has a lot of good attributes, but the poor arm strength will be a killer. The Ravens are going to jam eleven player, a couple cheerleaders and a few assistant coaches into the box and have their secondary jumping routes all day. I'll keep hope, and I'll pull for the guy, but in my eyes this is not the best chance Buffalo has of winning this game. My fear is the coaches are willing to sacrifice this season, we'll eventually put Allen in, start piling up wins, and ultimately just miss the playoffs because too many earlier games were considered expendable. I actually thought we were going to win this one. Now? I still think we can, and will still hope they do, but I don't like our chances. I initially predicted 9-7 with a wild card birth. After this announcement? 7-9, with people here screaming we should have started Allen sooner. My excitement for Sunday plumetted, but what can you do? Maybe the staff knows something I don't. Maybe they have a plan. Maybe they'll overachieve like last year. Still a Bills fan, still going to pull for them. I hope (desperately) for them and Peterman to prove me wrong. But this, to me at least, looks like the Bills are already sacrificing the season outright for the sake of the future beyond. Ugh...not the way I wanted this day or season to start... ?
Coach Tuesday Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 He will set an all-time, never-to-be-broken record for pick-sixes-per-attempt. This should be interesting. 1

Peterman doesn't have a lot of playing experience, but it's his 2nd year in the league and reportedly, the coaches like him because he's a Whiteboard Wizard, so I'm guessing this applies. Peterman improved his play this preseason and 'earned the gig', we'll hope it carries over when the D's are less vanilla and that he's learned when to "hold his fire" and not try to be a hero. Whatever it may be I would rather go with Allen. The kid, to me, doesn’t seem like a bad game or games, will faze him and I feel he is clearly more talented. Whether it’s next year, two years from now or two weeks from now, I think we will have a rough ride when 17 takes over. However, He will be the man once he gets his feet under him. I wish that was now. 1

In hindsight, they were trying to showcase AJM for trade in the 4th grade. Extra preseason snaps for Allen << 5th round pick in Beane's mind, especially when Daboll clearly didn't want to open the playbook and even if he escaped concussion protocol, Allen did have a vicious game Sunday and having to play again Thurs is no joke. I think that McDermott really wanted to give the nod to AJ. He's got to be scared to death to start Peterman again and look like a fool, even though Peterman overall has clearly had the best preseason. So he extended the process, but AJ never stepped up and claimed the ring, then he got hurt, then he sucked in the 1st half, so McDermott said "OK Daboll, Peterman it is, and Beane, you can shop McCarron - but if you guys make me look like a fool with this I'm sending for Belicheck's*** Tub O Entrails and you're both going in" Bleh. Fair enough. The news definitely lowered my excitement for Sunday. I have no illusions that Nate can be serviceable. Reps for Allen would take priority over everything else if they had any interest in starting him. They brought Allen along at a snail’s pace and when he accelerated it with his own play McD and Daboll threw a bucket of water on him against Cinci. I hope I’m wrong on Nate P, it’s going to be a long week for me hearing all these Pats fans. The reign of Allen can’t begin soon enough! 1

I'd take something like that in a heartbeat. Peterman will redeem himself and prove he belongs in the league.

It's like people forget about Brady and all the superstars that were late drafts or simply undrafted or taken after busts, and all the numerous high pick busts. As if the draft was a magical process. Don't get me wrong: I still can't wait for Allen to be in there! If he doesn't start this year, it means Nate is having one hell of a season and that'll be a great "problem" to have. Otherwise, yeah, I do expect to see Josh sooner than later. And he'd excite me more as a fan, way more. But I'll trust the coaches, and support a guy that has refused to crumble after an horrendous first outing. 2
Solomon Grundy Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Not surprised. You always wanna go forward, not backwards.

ProcessAccepted Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Impressive for a 5th round pick that could've completely mailed it in after the Chargers game last year. Go Peterman 5th round pick with 5 picks in a single half.. See what I did there?
CommonCents Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 5th round pick with 5 picks in a single half.. See what I did there? And wearing his 59Fifty New Era cap by halftime.
Kirby Jackson Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 @Kirby Jackson Didnt I bet you $10,000 that Peterman would start? Let me know when you’re ready for my checking and routing number. Just send me your checking and routing number. I’ll take it from there... 2
Brianmoorman4jesus Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 He's the starter now because Allen isn't ready. Nothing more or less. Disagree. Doesn’t matter. It’s an opinion, impossible to prove. Not a surprise that you feel that way. He’s the Bills QB now, it’s in all our best interest that he plays well. I hope he plays so well that there is no thought of playing someone else.

Box was stacked vs. AJ and Peterman, when Allen was in there the backs played much further off.
Hapless Bills Fan Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Getting the ball out quickly is 90% of this. Peterman is capable of executing this modern day, quick read and deliver, Brady style passing game. That’s why he looked good in mop up duty last year. That’s why they benched Tyrod last year, that’s why Peterman is the starter now. The issue is, that also led to some of the picks. Hopefully he learns from the mistakes and doesn’t end up having guys jump routes and rip balls up to the Defense. I think Peterman is the starter now because he out-played AJ McCarron and Allen isn't ready. Whether Peterman can execute that quick read and deliver passing game behind a horrid OL, to mediocre WR who can't gain separation and who drop too many balls, and with defenses doing their best to bait and confuse him remains to be seen. We'll hope he can. 1 1
x-BillzeBubba Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 People will say I'm crazy but Peterman's style has more than a little Brady DNA in it, in his fast reads and fast release-times... TB always had a knock about his arm strength too, but he actually has way more ball velocity now than when he started, you CAN build armstrength He could really surprise. Maybe. 2
DJB Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 So far this preseason for Peterman. 33-41 for 431 yards, 3TD, 1 INT 1 1

We'll hope he can. I agree. I think this OL is very bad, and the WR's aren't that good either. Either QB is going to be 'set up to fail' behind this OL. Right now, Peterman is likely to fail 'less', but he still is being set up to fail....They are saving Allen from a disaster though.
