That's the best thing we can do right now. This is his 4th year in the league and he hasn't improved at all. I'd rather just see Peterman if the plan is to let Allen be the backup for a few games. At least Peterman has a chance of becoming something. And then the cynic in me would think the Pats would cut Danny Etling, sign AJ and just get the playbook out of him
scribo Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Only trade McC if we can get something worthwhile (a 4th rounder) and can save enough to pay for another backup when our starter goes down. Even a one week injury would require bringing someone in. If we trade McC, we'd likely bring a QB in from another team right away for the practice squad.
Nihilarian Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 No way AJ doesn't make this team or gets traded considering the shape of that offensive line and their backups. If Peterman starts I suspect he will last about a half against the Ravens and Allen might make it a few games. If this regime wants to survive the season they will probably need more than three QB's.

So AJ was playing with bad talent, but he should have looked a lot better than them. Instead he looked just like them. Bingo.
Green Lightning Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Hats off to AJ but also to EJ. Last night against the Seahawks, EJ went 18-22, 255 YDS and 3 TDS. Good for him. 2
richardb1952 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Would not be surprised to see the Bills keep 3 QBs, at least to start the season. It's not like the Bills are overloaded with talent across the lineup to justify having 2 QBs. If, during the season, Bills have the opportunity to make a roster move to increase talent level, one of the two (AJ or NP) could be released. We don't know how much the injury might still be affecting AJ and running a basic offense with some marginal players might have played in his performance. He does hold onto the ball too long (Sacked), it was a very poor choice to throw the pick 6, and I didn't believe he was all that accurate in the game. Still, the coaches have a lot more material for evaluation than we casual fans, so it should be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Finally, even though it was a meaningless preseason game last night, I wanted to see some of these players get one more chance to show what they could do. AJ and Ray Ray showed some positive things.

More like dripping with annoyance for people that think that McCarron and Foster are worthy of roster spots due to their college program. But carry on 1

I mean if Christian Hackenberg were here and he was telling us how good he is because of how good he played at Penn state that one year it would make sense, but it doesnt. McCarron is not a starter, never has been, never will be. He is a backup QB, an above average backup QB, but a backup. I'm so glad we can finally get past, AJ throwing for 4,000 yards and 30 TD's like some were predicting when the Bills signed him.

A J playing for Buffalo has been a dream of mine for a few years now. Was the comeback enough to make the team? I hope it was, and watching McCarron on the sidelines at times during the preseason conversing with Allen gives the impression the relationship between them from a mentoring standpoint would be a good one. I'm not sure Peterman could offer the same kind guidance with so little experience. If I'm McD and based partly on the shaky 1 string Oline, I'm keeping a plan A, B, and C at the QB position. Peterman for the start, see where it goes... With this offensive line they would be crazy to go in with only 3 QBs. Allen may prove to be totally "unplayable" this year is another factor, they arent going to cut him. I think it is a foregone conclusion you keep 3. 1

What was really pathetic was the pick six, it was telegraphed, no zip on the ball and late but beyond that it was a quality pass. 1

He was pretty emotional about it after the game. He knew it would be the last time they’d be together and perhaps the end of NFL dreams for many. Class act and a veteran move. We don’t have that @ QB on this team if he leaves. Great for him. I wish the Bills had someone at QB that didn't even have to bother playing in the preseason, or worry about NFL Dreams for many. That would be nice. 1

Did he maybe play himself into one more NFL roster late? Only a team in true desperate straights could believe in him. LOL! If Josh Allen had the exact same game and engineered the come back like that you guys would all be saying he's the second coming of Joe Montana. Fact. 1

Peter Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 (edited) I think that it would be a big mistake for the Bills to release AJ. I thought he did fine given the cast around him. Just like I did not hold it against Allen last week, I am taking the same approach with AJ. Edited August 31, 2018 by Peter 1
zow2 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Nice comeback W for AJ but I hope he never starts a real game for the Bills. He won the game with some timely first down scrambles and by taking two Personal foul penalties to his facemask/head area. His TD throw to Foster was real nice. On the flip side, he could not get away from the pass rush unless he bailed out real early...otherwise he was caught from behind by the big D-linemen. His eyes reading the field look slow and his passes lack any zip.
