Multiple sources call The Police a new wave band. That being said, they are - by far - my favorite. How about post punk; Joy Division, then more "New Wave" electronica: New Order. 33 minutes ago, snafu said: Is Joe Jackson New Wave? I go with Joe Jackson. What about DEVO? I could go with them, too. If Talking Heads are New Wave (which I don't think they are), then they would definitely get my vote. Just gonna say Devo. What about: The Tubes. 39 minutes ago, T&C said: Echo and the Bunnymen opened for Peter Gabriel at Kleinhans back in 1978... last concert I saw before I went into the army. So I've seen them and the B'52's a few times, last time was at the now defunct Tampa Jai Alai... always had a good time at their shows. I voted other... I'll roll with The Tubes. Those first 4 albums plus the double live one are excellent... being produced by Ken Scott, Al Kooper, and Todd Rundgren can't hurt either. Beat me to it! 13 minutes ago, starrymessenger said: Elvis Costello & The Attractions The Pretenders... I guess more rock?
starrymessenger Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Chrissy & er backup definitely came to mind but y'know "The Beat" Rockpalast Hamburg 1978. Nuff said.
PastaJoe Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Definitely The Cars if they're considered New Wave. So many good songs. Also if New Wave: B-52s, The Go-Go's, Culture Club, Duran Duran, Missing Persons.

Lurker Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 OT, Boy George and Culture Club, the B-52s and Tom Bailey (Thompson Twins) are at Artpark tonight--totally sold out, all 10,000 tickets. Nostalgia tour for sure, but that sounds like a real fun line up...
SinceThe70s Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 This thread reminded me of Pee Wee Herman in Nice Dreams. 20 seconds in and after a couple of f-bombs: For the life of me I don't know what constitutes New Wave. To me it's more about what its not: punk, metal, pop and straight up rock. But if the Cars are New Wave, I'll go with them.
707BillsFan Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 I'll go with the English Beat / The Beat / General Public ... I think they were all pretty much the same band. 1
frostbitmic Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 Early Blondie would also be new wave ... Debbie Harry back in the day was smoking hot. 2

Talking Heads are totally New Wave. They basically are the definition of New Wave. Along with Devo, Blondie... They invented the genre. I am bit confused, mystified by your statement they don't qualify. Huh?? The American New Wave scene... Like CBGB... That's ground zero for American New Wave & Talking Heads built the genre. 2
