Following the Buffalo Bills' third preseason game, Joe Buscaglia and Matthew Fairburn got together to discuss Josh Allen's first start, Nathan Peterman and if he's getting close to winning the job, and what to do with AJ McCarron who seems to be lagging behind. Plus, some offensive line and cornerback chatter, and the introduction of the first ever Dri Archer Award.

Another great Bills Beat post-game podcast by Joe B and Matt Fairburn (See link in tweet below) Basically they said Allen showed he wasn’t ready.  The OL sucked but Allen could have gotten the ball out faster and been more decisive on a few throws.  Cincinatti’s defenders commented that he didn’t seem ready.

The most interesting discussion was on what to do at QB.  If Peterman is your starter, do you still need AJ McCarron?  Also if McCarron was ready to play if necessary, why didn’t he get any reps Sunday night?

This led Joe B to suggest the idea that the Bills start AJ in Game 4 as a way to showcase his ability to other teams.  He’ll likely have good success running against backups in the final week of the preseason.  Then after Game 4, they should trade him for anywhere between a 4th or 6th round pick.  He believe that McCarron has value to other teams given his experience and reasonable contract as a solid backup

Interestingly, they commented that AJ was standing by himself throughout the entire game.  It made it sound like they were suggesting he was frustrated/disinchanted with his situation.

What do do you think?  Good idea?

Hmm ... Gruden is not happy with his backup qbs. Check it out: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000950939/article/jon-gruden-unsure-if-raiders-have-backup-qb-on-roster.

He also sees McCarron as a Brad Johnson type (that's a compliment coming from him): http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2014/insider/story/_/id/10839518/2014-nfl-draft-jon-gruden-shares-observations-aj-mccarron.

Mack?

Mack for McCarron?  Count me in!

Well, obviously, the Bills would have to give up a high draft pick and possibly more. But it is the case that McCarron is his kind of backup and he doesn't like EJ and Cook.

I have no doubt that the Bills will entertain all offers for P man or McC.

What a JOKE. Peterman is the only QB on this team that stand a chance of not being sacked into oblivion behind our OFFENSIVE  offensive line.

Feeling the same way on McCarron.  He isn't going to be the starter and its senseless to have your top ten rookie be QB#3.  Not a lot of sense keeping a guy you need to pay 10 million dollars over two years as your #3.

Is there a market?  That I am not sure of given the lack of interest during free agency.  However, the backup situation across the NFL isnt great.

Jacksonville, Denver, San Diego, Oakland, Detroit and Seattle could all use help there.

I will throw one out there. McCarron and a late round pick to the Raiders for Brandon Parker. The Raiders get their number 2 QB and the Bills get a talented, young, small school OT. He can play RT, kick Mills inside to RG and start Teller at LG. You will still have some lumps but it is a good start to remaking your OL.

Joke? He is not, by a wide margin, the most athletic QB on the team. Your perceptions are the JOKE here.

Peterman is NOT the most athletic QB on the team.

However, Peterman got in and out of the huddle quicker which in turn gave him more time to read the defense and make adjustments prior to the snap PLUS got the ball out of his hands much quicker than Josh Allen yesterday.

When you have an O Line that is a sieve, you NEED to get rid of the ball ASAP.
