Bad Things Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) Once an a-hole, always an a-hole. I wish him the best, but things are looking good for ol' Richie. Edited August 21, 2018 by Bad Things

Estelle Getty Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 I Hope in this day and age everyone is aware the Incognito has a mental illness. It appears to be a very extreme case at the moment. You cannot try to rationalize the behavior of someone who is mentally ill and not properly medicated. Hopefully his family and friends can get him on the proper medications to help save his life.

Shame things turned out the way they did for him. Except for a few years in Buffalo, football did nothing to alter his bad/bizarre behavior. His history while playing football, from college until the Bills is rife with anger and behavior problems. 1 hour ago, Jauronimo said: Analizing, eh? Well, see ya later. Honestly they should have known something was wrong with him and got him help instead of kicking him to the curb. What are you talking about - wanting back. The Bills had him under contract - he flipped out fired his agent on twitter and retired via twitter. His health was so bad he “could not” play - his kidneys were shutting down. When he decided he wanted to play - then his contract was a problem and he wanted to be released. The Bills granted that. We do not know what kind of help was offered to him, but we know several Players reached out and I imagine the FO did also, but Richie was gone by then and within days he was throwing dumbbells in FL. This is not on the Bills at all as far as I am concerned. They got lucky and got out of the line of Fire for something that was coming regardless of if he was still on the team or not. 1

I never thought that I'd feel empathy toward him given his past and how I've talked about him in the past. Losing his dad will obviously be an emotional and stressful time. It might've triggered whatever he's been suffering with. I just hope he can accept the help before it's too late. Agreed it it is a difficult thing and my heart and prayers go out to him. The problem is losing his dad did not trigger this. This was was triggered by something much earlier as the first real indication we had was the bizarre twitter rants. Something changed prior to that that triggered that behavior and since then it has been a spiral and this latest death just pushes it further over the edge. My hope is now maybe in a controlled situation- he can get some help he needs to get everything back under control with his mental illness. The players have reached out to try and help, the family sounds like they tried earlier to help, now maybe Richie with this arrest at a low point will accept the help and get whatever he needs to get through this. If not at this low point - the next lower point is a very dark place indeed. 1

However, Ritchie has been well aware of his problems. He has had the money and support to seek the help he needs, and he has failed to do so. I do hope he eventually does what he needs to do; but, at this point I am more concerned for potential harm to somebody else. That’s not how it works. It’s not that simple, and having the money doesn’t help if you’re not pointed in the right direction. It’s far more complicated than that, sadly.
Steptide Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 My theory is (sorry if already stated) that when he retired from football, he either started taking stereroids, or maybe went off his meds. It's so odd that he was such a high charecter guy when he was with the bills. He was such a great comeback story. Obviously something isn't right in his head, but I do think it's somehow drug related (on or off them)
Augie Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 PSA - Bill next up on NFL LIve, ESPN. Spent a lot of time on Allen, McD and Bills up next. 1

The Bills, his agent, and Richie agreed to a new contract and everything was there. A month later Richie decides on Twitter to fire his agent and retire. He had football, but something went off and that is on him. From what you hear - family, friends, teammates have all reached out, but if he doesn’t want help there is little you can do. Since then you have had the incident at the gym, his bizarre twitter support of Shady, his weird interaction on social media about the Vikings including calling a respected head coach a liar and other nasty things - including the fact that he does not want to be a part of training camp. Now you have the death of a father and then this outburst and arrest. It is sad, but it was not about Buffalo - all of this is on Ritchie and if he wants to get right he will need to accept help. ...EXCELLENT and thorough assessment bud.....the only way to stop the downward spiral is to tell himself, someone or anyone that he needs help....without that FIRST STEP, the spiral will continue and the results may be less than favorable.....those on the outside can only do so much IMO.... 1

Jerome007 Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Not many things you can do to help a guy with mental issues that won't seek help or refuse it. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that wanted him back this year and even more so after that last 1st string OL performance!

IMHO, this is not a situation involving a lack of direction or one that is terribly complicated. You can feel sympathy and empathy for Ritchie while still holding him accountable and placing much of the responsibility with him. Edited August 21, 2018 by billsfan1959

Yes, he will be held accountable, but it’s just not that simple. You can tell someone they are sick and they need help. They can hear it a thousand times. That doesn’t register like it might with you or me. It’s just....different. Edited August 21, 2018 by Augie 2 3
