This seems weird to me. Of all the potential problems on this team, punter didn't seem to be one to me. This late in camp you don't bring in a vet like Ryan if youre not seriously contemplating a change. I've been ok with Schmidt.

This is a situation that fell into their laps though making it easier. A better punter is released by his former team, Bill's have a connection to him through their kicker and an opening cause of an injury to their 2nd punter so they call him up and sign him to come in and try to win the job. If he didnt just get cut they probably stick with schmidt and bring in an extra leg for the last 2 games. Instead a potential upgrade fell into their laps.

Other positions are not as easy because a good player coming available, that also fits your scheme, is less likely to happen and not come with additional teams also in play for them. How many teams are looking for and short punters this week?

If there were serious about upgrading the punter position, they should have drafted JK Scott. The kid is a stud and he fits the culture.

They may have been interested drafting him later then he went if he was available, bit did not feel that a punter was a high enough priority cause Schmidt was good enough. This situation fell into their lap and they went for it because they feel he may be an upgrade to what they have, but still feel comfortable with who they have if he doesnt work out

Schmidt is an average nfl punter, his one quality that gave him a leg up on any punter competition was his history of holding for hauschka's field goal attempts.

That advantage isn't there with Ryan.

Ryan also sounds like the exact type of locker room player they look for

Wasnt Ryan Hauschkas holder when they played together in Seattle a few years ago? I would say theres much of an advantage for Schmidt anymore then....

Seahawks fan here, been watching Jon Ryan since he came into town 10 years ago. The Ginja Ninja is going to be a great addition to your team. Him and Hauschka have a great bond and he is a fan favorite here in Seattle. Tons of Ryan jerseys here, which you don't see for punters. He's hilarious and doesn't mind poking fun at his own expense. Check out the pics of his Td pass to Gilliam.  Hate to lose him as a cap casualty,  but happy he's back with his buddy Hauschka. He's a competitor and u will love his interviews, once u get past his speech impediment.  Good luck this season, Go Hawks!

That's what I was saying. That Schmidt's advantage over other punters isn't there when competing with Ryan

Then he came to the right place, for a while the Bill's only bright spot was their pro bowl punter who was being used on promotional material and people also wore his Jersey....

I think the punter that got hurt was out playing Schmidt in the preseason. It’s terrible that his chance was taken away by a silly play in preseason. I think it’s time for a change. Bring in the new guy and let’s see what’s what.

Is this a camp-leg thing? I think Schmidt is pretty good.

I would not think so.  I think they were legitimately hoping the injured punter showed a lively leg to make the team better and with that injury - I think they are looking for help.

Schmidt is pretty good, but he has very bad moments.  If they can find someone that eliminates the bad and is able to maintain the good - a replacement will happen.

No need to tell us about beloved punters.....Brian Moorman was the best player on this team during Skeletors(DJ) reign ;)

Didn't he shank one in the Wild Card game?
