26CornerBlitz Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) From the other side: Game Notes: Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills Setting the scene: The Bengals travel to Buffalo on Sunday for their third preseason game — the proverbial “dress rehearsal,” in which starters typically see their most preseason playtime — with a bevy of storylines, connections and intrigue. At the top of the list is perhaps the most high-profile and nationally recognized story — Bengals QB Andy Dalton and WR Tyler Boyd are visiting Buffalo for the first time since their 49-yard TD connection in the waning moments of last year’s finale at Baltimore defeated the Ravens and helped put the Bills in the playoffs for the first time since 1999. The play sparked a wave of goodwill from Bills fans, and in the end resulted in more than $550,000 in donations to both Dalton’s charity foundation and Boyd’s hometown youth sports league. But close observers of the two teams will say that the narratives hardly stop there, as both squads also will see their share of familiar faces on Sunday. This offseason the Bengals acquired LB Preston Brown as an unrestricted free agent and OT Cordy Glenn in a trade — both played with the Bills last season — while the Bills acquired a pair of Bengals UFAs in QB AJ McCarron and C Russell Bodine. All four players are expected to have prominent roles for their current teams. Old Bills Help Re-fresh Bengals Downtown Preston Brown, who grew up in College Hill with a Chad Johnson Fathead and bought a place on Cincinnati’s Fourth Street a couple of years before he left the Bills, returns to Buffalo Sunday (4 p.m.-Cincinnati’s Channel 19) with a smile on his face. “I love it here,” Brown said after he plugged the Bengals defense at middle linebacker during Thursday’s practice. “It’s been fun. I’ve never seen so many different position groups hanging out. Usually it’s cliqued up. To see offensive linemen with a linebacker or with a quarterback, it’s cool to see everybody hanging out.” Brown was a linebacker that could be seen with an O-lineman Thursday as he kidded old Bills teammate Cordy Glenn about the reception he’ll get in Orchard Park Sunday. But there’s no question that these two have received a stirring welcome in Bengaldom after they have been as advertised when filling two of the off-season’s biggest needs. Glenn is the kind of stable left tackle they glaringly missed last season after 15 years of Levi Jones and Andrew Whitworth while Brown brings certain elite middle linebacker skills not seen since the days of a young Rey Maualuga.
