RocCityRoller Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) I was also excited by the post especially since it came after the Coleman deal, and was hoping for the stars. Who knows what could happen? I was very happy with the first and some of the 2nd string in the Carolina game. I was very impressed with Daboll. It was like he had three game plans for three different QBs, and it mostly worked. Up tempo quick pass game with Peterman, balanced attack with AJ. Deep shots, runs and passes in tight windows for Allen. It was a more diverse attack than even in the Marchibroda era. Daboll game planned three different offensive attacks for three different QBs in preseason Game one. What does he do with a known starter at QB, Shady McCoy and a week to prepare? It's hard to believe the Bills are only in year two of a full rebuild. I'm not sure I've never seen a Bills team do so well in a full tear down and rebuild. I think it's important for us to keep perspective. In neither y1 or yr 2 did the Bills have much cap room. Some if it was self inflicted. This team dealt or let walk away its starting DT, WR1, WR2, WR3, CB1, FS, SS, and a highly drafted LB in year one and still made a playoff run with a rookie HC and new DC. McDermott and Frazier largely looked up to the challenge in year one. If it weren't for McVay, McDermott should have been the rookie HC of the year. McDermott did more with less than McVay. Hyde, Poyer, Matthews and Gaines were solid vets but hardly highly pursued. Tre White was one of the best draft picks by the Bills in the last 10 years. This team then made a move mid-season to get KB and Clay when Matthews didn't work out, neither move cost the Bills much. Even though Gaines and Matthews are gone, and Clay has been on and off the team so many times, I can't count it, this Front Office makes moves and acknowledges mistakes, giving hope to a post like Astro's. In year two they brought in Daboll, a very successful OC in the NFL and DI. He has more rings than the Godfather. They dealt away or handled the unplanned retirement of the starting QB, LT, LG and C. They acquired veteran starters in Bodine and Newhouse through mid level FA to pivot and address the O-line. Groy and Miller were waiting in the wings (thank you Whaley) Realizing the mistake and three game defensive debacle after dealing away Dareus they brought in Star L and Murphy to bolster the D-line. A low level FA brought in AJM to compete for QB. Would you rather have Matt Cassell or AJM as the wild card 'vet' presence? I'll take AJM all day every day. The Bills draft brought in potential franchise QB Allen, who does not have to start right away, MLB' hit or miss' prospect Edmunds, Horrible Harry who may end up being the value pick of the draft, Teller to push Ducasse and Miller, and 'Swiss army knife' Ray Ray McCloud. I think Daboll, Star L, Allen, Phillips and Teller end up being the story lines of this off this off season in retrospect. The reason the Astro message got me hyped was because we have not seen his FO (GM, HC, OC and DC) deal with a nearly full compliment of draft picks and emerging cap space before. The Bills are projected to have the second highest cap space next year (70-80 million) and $0 in dead cap money. It's also rare for a 'hold out star player' to have such strong Buffalo ties as Mack. This FO rivals Polian, Levy, Marchibroda and Cottrell, and pushes the 60's AFL Champion teams. From a coaching perspective it may be better. We have the high level pieces in place. I'm excited by the prospects for the future. The roster is still a bit weak compared to other playoff teams especially in depth, but I think the Bills finally have a coaching edge. Coaching and a plan can do wonders for a less than stellar roster. The Giants, Pats, Ravens and Bucs all won Super Bowls with less than stellar rosters in the modern era. I hope there is one more 'big splash', but if there isn't I'll still be excited by this team and what it is building. 6-10 to 8-8 is a real possibility, but with this coaching staff and a GM who is willing to make in season moves, 9-7 or 10-6 is a real possibility. Johnny Hammersticks Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 I punted 72 kittens. 9 for every hour over the 48 hour deadline. I’m slowly getting over it now. Therapy will help. Hopefully.

Seriously fellow Bills fan.....sometimes we need to take a break. This might be that time if it is controlling you this much. Astro apparently thought he heard something that made him believe it was coming soon. Three things happened. 1) He was mistaken 2) It is taking longer then expected 3)It fell through. I will tell you what did not happen. Astro was not blowing smoke. 4) A source threw out a fake lead as a test. I've considered it. It was a swing and miss. Honestly it was good entertainment until the preseason game. It was a nice distraction. So I'm not bothered by it. Edited August 12, 2018 by Lfod 1
