Royale with Cheese Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Apparently this was announced in January and I never heard about it. Well...will you see it? https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/tom-hanks-fred-rogers-film-dated-for-october-2019-release/
Happy Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Not sure. Trying to visualize the storyline and plot of the movie. I mean they can't just show the one apartment room and him changing his shoes for two hours.

He does go to "The Neighborhood of Make-Believe", has speedy deliveries, and visits violin makers and paper mills.
RaoulDuke79 Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I doubt I will see it, but it seems to be good casting.
Fadingpain Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 The real Mr. Rogers was a pretty normal, decent guy, right? Like he wasn't a pedophile or drug addict or anything. So I will probably not see it. Not sure there's much of a movie there.
ChevyVanMiller Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 (edited) The documentary is wonderful. He was a brilliant man that tackled subjects like racism, assassination and the threat of nuclear war head-on with grace and dignity. https://www.history.com/news/mr-rogers-episodes-taboo-topics Edited August 10, 2018 by ChevyVanMiller 1 2

I like Tom Hanks too, it's just that I think he gets too many real-life roles. His performance as Walt Disney was weird. Not the first person I would have picked for that role, or for this. Yet for some reason, Felicity Jones has been cast to play Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Edited August 9, 2018 by Mark Vader
LeGOATski Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Yeah, I'll definitely see it. Tom Hanks is a weird choice. Shoulda been Nicolas Cage. 1

I agree about Hanks. Great actor of course but doesn't look like a Mr. Rogers. You know who I think would have been a great choice? Benedict Cumberbatch 1

He's a great actor and his demeanor is calming, like Mr. Rogers. He's also very good with impressions and I think he would get Mr. Rogers down perfectly. 1

I didn't know there was the documentary that Chevy Van Miller mentioned. I'd be much more interested in watching that than a Hollywood semi-fictional account of his life. In fact, I'll make it a point to see the documentary based on CVM's recommendation. I love good documentaries.

I hid that uncomfortable scepter of his up my ass for 5 years. And now........I give the scepter......to you." 1
