I have not understood how the same folks negative on Allen talk about how we missed on Mahomes, how Beane gets fired for not taking Mahomes, etc.   His flaws are similar to the ones talked about for Allen, primarily footwork.   At least Allen ran a more pro style offense.  Mahomes ran that shotgun single look spread - has a QB that played that offense in college done well in the pros?

....history doesn't really matter...it's up to the individual.......he still needs plenty of work to make a successful transition to the NFL...laughable part is the TBD experts calling for McBeane's head because he didn't take Mahomes?.......imagine them yipping NOW if he was HERE and had the SAME 6 or 7 INT's?.......I'm CERTAIN they would fess up with their mea culpas (COUGH)....

So I follow the Cheifs on Bleacher Report just because I have Hunt as my keeper in 2 leagues and like to see how Sammy is doing.  So while this report has been on those mistakes, I can tell you that I have also got several notices on huge plays to Hill and Sammy as well.  I did NOT want to draft Mahomes at 10 as I thought he was too risky there and I loved our trade back.  But just because I thought he had a lot of risk doesn't mean the first week of Training Camp is going to prove who he is or isnt.

Like with Allen, there will be some whoa moments and some cringe moments.  Only time will tell if either, both or neither can get rid of most those cringe moments and be a consistently good QB in the NFL.

Ya, I saw a huge play to Hill the other day.

When there was absolutely no pass rush and Hill was just being Hill.

Redford's offense wasn't the Texas Tech offense as I recall

Meanwhile.....My boy Tre is doing awesome!

Love me some Tre but he's not exactly picking off Brady, Rodgers or Brees while guarding AB, Julio and Hopkins.

Not ?ing  on him, he's on his way to being an elite CB for years to come. Wish he had better comp in camp. KB seems to be the only WR giving him a challenge.

I don't really "hope" he busts but I can't stand the arrogance.  It won't hurt my feelings if the Chefs as a whole struggle.

Nice read on the situation...but who are the 'Chefs'?

Great googly moogly!

Why do you consider him arrogant?

Tedford ran the air raid at Cal. It isn't exactly the same as the offense Mahomes played in at Texas Tech of course it isn't... things change over 12 years. But the people who say top Quarterbacks can't come from wide open air raid schemes..... sorry to tell you but Aaron Rodgers did exactly that.

First of all.. it's just training camp.  He's probably testing the limits of what he can and can not get away with.  Better to do that in practice than an actual game.  If the picks continue into the regular season, that's when they need to worry

Second of all:

Quote

Mahomes -- who only played in one game last season as a rookie -- is also making his share of big plays at practice. On Wednesday he threw over the top to Tyreek Hill for a long touchdown pass.

How many years did Rodgers sit on the bench and learn the offense before starting?

Case Keenum did well last year..perhaps this shows the learning curve can a lot longer going from those systems to the NFL...Keenum was OK prior to last year but it seemed like the light finally went on...wonder how many of these QBs could have been good if they got 5 or 6 years instead of 2 or 3...

Cal ran a spread offense?

Tedford is an air raid guy. I presume that is what Cal were running. I confess though it was before I was watching college football.

Think it was 3 years, can't remember. They worked relentlessly on his footwork. Basically stripped it down and rebuilt it. I was scpetical of Mahomes' footwork too and think it needs a similar rebuild.

Yep, just looked it up. The whole 2005-2007 seasons and off-seasons.  So it is definitely possible to "train up" a spread/air-raid college QB to run a pro-style NFL offense, assuming the base talent level is there, but with only 1 season and 2 offseasons so far, it wouldn't be shocking to see Mahomes struggle for a year or two as the starter.

No he isnt. Tedford is a traditional pro style who tried to incorporate more wide spread, but hes not an air raid guy.
