The extension is 60 million, 4 years, 45 million guaranteed.

Even Gurley had said this spring that the team should be focusing on extending another player:  Aaron Donald.  Hurley said he would wait for his...

Yeah, it's 4 years added on top of his remaining 2.  So ~$70/6 years.  And this might free up money for Donald because they're apparently working on him next.

It's still the richest contract by far.  And he would have taken it next year if they still thought he was worth it.  History tells us he will not have a year like his singular year last, yet the will owe him at least 45 million no matter what happens to his game.

What if he gets hurt next season?  Or if his production regresses to what it had been the previous 2 seasons (good but not what would command top dollar)?  They would be paying him hardly anything and would not have to offer him this current amount.  There was no penalty for the Rams waiting a year.

The chance is Bell getting $14M/year or more.  And you take a risk doling out a big contract to any player.

It's less risky when you use the rookie contract to your best advantage.  Let him show he should tie up all that money.  He's had 1 "Bell type" season.

And even Bell isn't going to get 6o million over 4 years next year...
