I would bet big money on the Bills not going 0-8. I would not be surprised if we beat Baltimore to start off. The Bills defense will steal some games and surprise people.

I’m ok with a tank. As a fan, I’ve never been part of one. I remember when the Sabres, Coyotes and Leafs tanked and my Oilers ended up with Connor McDavid.

So that was fun.

tanking means you could have won but decided not to do your best, for certain reasons

when you are just totally along for the drubbing and no ability to stop it, that's not tanking

Holy crap I just looked at a draft preview!

Its suppose to be a terrible year for QB’s but 4 listed in round 1.

The top 20 had about 5/6 DE and 5 DT.

I thought little Bosa was suppose to be better than big brother. 9th! Heck grabbing an edge rusher in top 5 seems logical.

As I mentioned in another post, I can see them starting the season 3-3. Balt, SD and Tenn.

The Bills as of recent years seem to start off better than most pundits think.

First 7 games last 4 seasons: 2014/ 3-4,  2015/ 3-4,  2016/4-3,   2017/ 5-2

Yep and actually not just the last 4 seasons but you have to go back to 2010 being the last time the Bills were hot garbage at midway point:

2010: 0-8

2011: 5-3

2012: 3-5

2013: 3-5

2014: 5-3

2015: 4-4

2016: 4-4

2017: 5-3

The only season were mid point they really were toast was 2010. The rest of the years they actually in a playoff spot, right on the brink, or at least close enough prompting our "in the hunt" jokes. The Bills have only started 0-2 once since 2010 and that was 2016 which they got to 4-2 pretty quick right after. The middle to end of the season has always been the issue.

The thing I think that hurts is the lack of home games in Sept/Oct. The team has usually played pretty well at home since 2010, but we only get two games until the MNF vs NE. Kinda sucks and is super unfair in my opinion when you typically are only given about a 40% chance to win on the road as is before factoring in matchup.

Hypothetically, let’s play this out and the Bills finish with a top 5 pick. Allen plays in 2018 and shows good progress. IMO, our biggest needs next year based upon this are RB, OT, C, WR, TE, LB and CB. Narrowing that down our pick would be OT, WR, OLB or CB based upon draft value. We certainly need a stud WR!  Need to be in position to groom Shady’s replacement but not w a top 5 pick. That should narrow our choices of prospects down significantly.

Let's face it.  This is going to be a very unusual year.  If the defense is solid (and Edmunds plays well) and if there are signs that Allen is the real deal, I really don't care about our record.  If the first two things come to pass and our record is really crappy, it means we have problems on the O-Line and/or receiver.  Very fixable with cap room and high draft picks.  I'm not advocating a tank by any means but if the above two things come to pass, I'm happy no matter what the record is.

A guy like Oliver is not a difference maker on an otherwise bad team, or team without a QB.

You say we have our QB of the future.  Do we?  What's his name?

You don't mean Allen do you?  Jury is out on him, big time.

Allen is quite literally the QB of the future. There is no debating that. He'll have at least 3 years as the starter.

Will he be good? Nobody knows. But he is absolutely the QB of the future.

What if we win at Baltimore on opening Sunday?  Would the world explode?

It'll be fun to see if a win causes people to overreact (it almost always does). I think Baltimore is a pretty bad team, so I think it's completely possible that Buffalo wins Week 1 and goes on to have a bad season regardless. I'm not rooting for a bad season by any means; I just think the team is likely worse than it was a year ago, and I don't think last year's team was very good either despite sneaking into the playoffs.

Maybe it's the homer in me but I actually see us improving from last year.

Our defense couldn't get to the QB at all and couldn't stop the run.  I think we've improved on both.

I think Edmunds makes a HUGE difference on our defense.  He's a sideline to sideline tackler and can cover.  Preston Brown was solid but not a playmaker and limited in coverage.

Offense....were back to a power running scheme and I think we will be able to throw it better.  Not saying we will be a good passing team but last year....we were terrible.

We only scored I believe 29 total offensive TD's all year.  That's 2001 bad where we went 3-13.  I really feel we will be able to score more and not be as one dimensional.

We shall see! I'm not convinced Edmunds will be an upgrade in Year 1 though he obviously has far, far more potential than Preston.

The way I see it (solely for this season compared to last season):

QB: downgrade

RB: slight downgrade (another year of McCoy aging) and Ivory is only a slight upgrade as the backup IMO)

WR: slight upgrade (hopefully a healthy Benjamin outweighs the "loss" of Matthews)

O-Line: downgrade

D-Line: slight downgrade (obviously he wasn't with the team the whole year, but we essentially swapped out Dareus for Star which is a significant downgrade and improved depth)

LBs: ??? As I mentioned, I'm not convinced Edmunds is an upgrade as a rookie; he's just so young and inexperienced still.

DBs: downgrade (Gaines > Vontae)

As you can see, I'm pretty pessimistic in the short-term, but I'm also very excited about Allen, Edmunds, and the cap space moving forwards.

And I think last year's team was roughly a 7 win caliber team, so being worse this upcoming year probably equals a top 5-10 pick IMO.

When will the crusade fade?

For a dude with that screen name I’d assume the crusade will end when he actually proves himself. He’s literally just measurables with no good numbers; how do you lack the screen name to realize this ?

Jury is out unless he wins games and puts up good numbers like a QB you spend picks to draft high for.

That and guys like Allen aren’t really franchise QB material in the post-Al Davis Era. Need an accurate smart QB...something Allen never was.

Pass rusher. Pass rusher. Pass rusher.

To me that is the only place they should be thinking of using their #1 next year. Even if Hughes and Murphy have good years. Next year's class looks stacked with talented pass rushers and the Bills need a cornerstone piece for the next 8 or 9 years at that spot.

The entire Steelers D would be backups on our team.

Man an I hope Allen is great, these 0-8 predictions are annoying. Our team is better than last year. We had a tough schedule last year as well.
