d_wag Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 starting today, any team that signs their f-tagged player to a long-term contract loses their f-tag for the length of that contract..........this rule is lifted on july 15 and the player can then be signed to a long-term deal with no penalties....... my question is what is the point of this rule? it's not good for the player or the team, thus isn't good for the game, so what does it accomplish? any ideas?
bobblehead Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 My guess is that the union wanted this to force teams to sign long-term contracts earlier, or to forego using the franchise tag altogether and just sign long term contracts from the get-go. I know, but that's all I can come up with, sorry.
BuffaloRebound Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Is this why James signed the franchise tender? Now he can sign a long term contract with Indy or in a sign and trade during this period?
stuckincincy Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Teams and agents dicker behind the scenes to hammer out something. It's a wink-wink process.
