TigerJ Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I'd kick the tires on Branden Oliver. He played at UB and he's younger than the over the hill Peterson or Murray. The question on Oliver is whether or not he can completely recover from an achilles injury. That is the worst injury a RB can have, but when the 2018 season starts, he will have had 2 years to recover. At 27, he's a little younger than most of the FAs that are available. He's short, reportedly measuring anywhere from 5'7" to 5'8" but he's strong and carries 208 lbs. When healthy, he has some explosiveness.
BuffaloHogan Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 T.O. wants back too... Owens and Jackson in 2018!

Today, a tweet is posted online and immediately it's being retweeted and put on news websites before anyone has had a chance to look into any claims cause they want to be the first to break the story. Yesterday morning I received a message on my phone from one of the sports networks about this tweet without any real info in it except that McCoy was being accused of assaulting a woman, his child, a dog, and took PEDs. It wasnt until later that its found out it wasnt him personally, and it was during a break in/home invasion. This wasn't a rumor. It was an accusation made by the victim's party, with a photo, on the internet. That's how this "story" broke. Is a reporter supposed to ignore that? As for the "later it was found out"---that was the reporter getting the correct info for you. What part of this failed, in your opinion?
wppete Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 This is awful. was hoping McCoy will take the pressure off whoever plays QB this year. But without Shady we might be screwed.

Jesus , some whore makes a random accusation against rich and famous ballplayer , let's get a police report and investigation reports before we even mention McCoy as a suspect. No journalistic integrity in this age, it's sickening Did McCoy have anything to do with this, who knows, but assuming the story is true that she got robbed and beat up. (Pretty certain she didn't hit herself), if they specifically asked for items given to her from McCoy, he's having this bad court battle with her already, and supposedly he's stated he wants the jewelry back per other posts here. Think it kind of makes it a good chance he was involved to some level. On top of that, its not his 1st issue with the law. Will he be found guilty, I'd guess not cause he hired a good lawyer and will be a hard thing to proof unless someone rolls over on him, but the NFL may still suspend him. There's another whole thread about Darius latest escapade. Didn't see any posts there condemning the press, you could have posted the identical thing there just replaced McCoy's name. How come?? Oh because it doesn't affect your favorite team in fact it involves a player most Bills fans hate. So when talking about "journalistic integrity", there's really no integrity by Bills fans either. Any player on other team guilty as charged, involving a Bills player innocent and condemn anyone that speaks otherwise without absolute proof. And that's fine, but stop ripping the press for it. I think a big reason all these things get reported today by the press is people do so many more stupid things so no shortage of things to report. 60 years ago Micky Mantle was a good old boy, today he'd be an alcoholic. People may get into fist fights, today they shoot them. Drugs were only used by low life drug addicts and women who got hit, were basically looked at as women that deserved it. 1
Malazan Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 If Shady is out, you give up on offense and try to win with points scored on defense. 1

All these sites that cover these things with no proof , no talking to police or investigators , no digging whatsoever, just getting a quick click out of it.. just last year it happened to another high profile RB (Zeke Elliot) that turned out to be completely innocent and wrongly accused, yet had to have a dark cloud over him ,created by these outlets He was at a parade on camera exposing a girl that didn't want it. He was on camera going to a weed shop in Seattle. It wasn't just the one thing with Zeke. And while he didn't get charged, it was all in public documents. They were just doing their job. It comes with being a public figure, it's ****ty, but they weren't doing anything wrong. 1 hour ago, Ed_Formerly_of_Roch said: Did McCoy have anything to do with this, who knows, but assuming the story is true that she got robbed and beat up. Happy Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 While we're throwing names like T.O., Fred Jackson, and Ray Rice out there, let's see what Joe Cribbs is up to these days.

If they had journalistic integrity they would research the background of the story and not say anything until they have evidence of anything happening. Instead today everyone wants to be the first to break a story so journalistic integrity is thrown out the window and you report on rumors and social media postings so that you might be the first one to report on it It's getting much worse today where half the "news" you read or see is from a Twitter account or social media. And reporters care more about being the first to report/break the story then being correct cause that's what matters. They cant waste time researching and looking for facts. This. There has been some good, factual news reporting on this, laying out the back-story of her relationship and the timeline of previous police calls to the house/eviction actions. Then there has been some crap reporting where "news media" simply picks up on Instagram posts and regurgitates them as though they are news. 13 minutes ago, 26CornerBlitz said: Welp, then, take him off the table. The part where the reporter is supposed to dig into it and investigate before publishing. Maybe call the woman herself and ask if she's accusing McCoy of himself assaulting her, maybe call the police and see what they can find out about charges or the call, contact the friend and try to find out what evidence she actually has, that kind of thing. AP and legit news outlets need sources - maybe 1 if from someone actually involved, otherwise 2 independent sources. Too much news is now being conducted as a Twitter or Instagram repeater.

It IS news--the Instagram post IS THE NEWS. That's what is being reported. They are simply reporting what someone said in public. I honestly don't know what the issue is here. There has never been a time when, if a person loudly and publicly made such a claim in any type of medium against a famous person, that it would NOT have been reported as such. Never. The accusation itself is news. News gets reported on. By your logic here, everyone in the country with access to the internet would know this news, but no reporter could ethically report on it until an investigation could be completed. When is that ever done? The police have been called by every major news outlet. Her lawyers no doubt were also---immediately after the story broke and they released their statement. And everything known so far has been reported. What is really missing in the coverage of this story, in your estimation? Edited July 13, 2018 by Mr. WEO
