What he said was despicable, however he is not responsible. That wasn't released until AFTER the shooting...

You're right... It could have just as easily been one of Trump's anti-press, social media, tirades.

Agreed. But if a Republican politician was gunned down in the streets, Maxine Waters would be guilty under the same premise.

Both sides need to calm down and respect their counterparts as human beings. We all do.

Not gonna happen, as #34 is illustrating.

Local reports are that the guy had some sort of personal grudge against that paper - had ****-all to do with national political stupidity.  Won't stop the narratives, though.

Doubt that it's directly related, but ironic that a newspaper just got shot up.

24 hour rule here on my end, meaning I'm withholding judgement on anything  - BUT suspect's ID is out there... and the first bit of digging into him are filled with red flags:

* He was a known hostile threat to the paper, had a law suit against them:

https://web.archive.org/web/20140124185707/http://mysite.verizon.net/jwramos79/

* He's a federal employee (Bureau of Statistics)

Oh... and this:

Just saying, 24 hour rule but this one is really odd already.

this is a shell game, the oldest con in the book.  Extremists are extreme, and most reasonable people can agree to disagree without shooting up a newspaper, a movie theater, a church full oh worshippers, or a softball game.  The fringe is the fringe and always seems to find a way to do horrific sh-t like this.

So you're saying he was brainwashed 7 years ago, and just activated now?

I'm saying nothing for the time being, 24 hour rule, but those first confirmations fit a pattern that's pretty well established: known hostile, government connection/ic connection. Could mean nothing ultimately.

But because you asked, and with the admission I'm just speculating... it's not a secret that certain agencies within the IC have a history of farming out their family members to certain clandestine SAPs dealing with just this sort of thing. It was a bad week for the "establishment", and this morning had a very enlightening and perfect-for-tv hearing between Congressmen and the DOJ... not that this is what it was, but there were plenty of things that some in the IC (or former IC) would love to distract from/change the narrative.

By Maxine Waters obviously.

Am I the only one here who knows how to construct a proper conspiracy theory?  You've got to go more obscure than that, and use unprovability as proof.

He was clearly brainwashed by...a time-traveling McLean Stevenson.  I can prove it with the lack of evidence, which demonstrates that Stevenson used his time-traveling capabilities to delete, erase, and remove any evidence of his time travel.  Wake up, sheeple!

Holy crap - I just checked and there's absolutely no evidence of McLean Stevenson being involved in time travel at all. If he didn't have the ability to change time, then there would be proof that he didn't.

I can only imagine where he won't show up next.

It wasn't despicable at all. It was a private comment.  Not a public call to action.

The inability of the average person to make simple distinctions is mind boggling.

Approving of people who dont agree with you to be gunned down in cold blood is despicable. The level of hate in our rhetoric at this time in our country is out of control. This post of your's from Wednesday would seem to agree.

I think there's a clear distinction between the level of "civility" before and after Trump.

While there's nothing new about people trashing politicians they dislike, there is something new about the wholesale dehumanization of their supporters. There's also something new about the wave of widespread violence and harassment against individuals, and it's coming primarily from the left. We're not talking about isolated incidents of some !@#$ acting up, but rather large organized movements. For example, you have antifa violently "protesting" conservative speakers, and violently "counter-protesting" Trump rallies. You have groups vandalizing and picketing the private home of the president of the NRA. And there are wide-spread organized efforts to de-platform conservatives and purge them from businesses and universities. And all that's before you had Maxine Waters dumping gasoline on the fire.

Not only has this not been done by the right, it was never done by the left during my lifetime. Not on this scale, and not with wide-spread support.

The other problem with the vitriolic hatred coming from the left (and it is absolutely that) is that it is without direction. In times past most disagreements that sparked passions were over actual issues based in reality, like welfare, taxes, war, and abortion. If you were arguing over the Iraq war, there actually was a war to debate. If you're a socialist arguing with a capitalist, even if the conversation descends into nasty ad hominim attacks, at least you're discussing a real issue that can be debated.

The new left is raging against figments of their imagination. These aren't even policy based arguments. How do you compromise with someone who's calling for the elimination of Nazis when there are no Nazis to eliminate? How do you reason with someone who's fighting racist policies that aren't even being proposed? I've got people on my FB feed who actually believe Trump is building concentration camps to exterminate the Mexicans. How do you reason with those guys?

If you don't acknowledge their imaginary boogie men and join the witch hunt, you are a Nazi, or at best a Nazi sympathizer, and thus you need to be destroyed. Put differently, if you aren't "woke" you're the enemy. And an enemy deserves no mercy.

That's a far cry from calling Obama a Muslim or burning an effigy of Bush with a swastika on its arm.

There's a big difference between public and private statements. It's not a difficult distinction and it makes a huge difference.

Sanctimonious people are the most despicable of all.

It was "never done by the left during your lifetime?"

Are you young enough that the anti fur protesters weren't throwing paint at women wearing fur coats during your lifetime?  (The Q is directed at original author of the quote.)  Granted that was lunatic fringe left, but it still was the left.  Apparently the caveats about scale & support were there to mitigate the term "never" but that seems kind of intellectually dishonest.  At least to this observer, it does.
