Kirby....might need to start getting ready to see Peterman week 1.

Half joking here since it's early but I went from "no way he starts week 1" to "wow....it might actually happen".

No chance, imagine if it failed? That would throw this staff into the crosshairs. They won’t subject themselves to that. If Allen is ready, it’s Allen, if not, it’s McCarron.

To paraphrase Joe Seluchi / Sonny Bono in Airplane II, "I don't know if this would be a good time to ask, but would it be possible for us to get our Cardale Jones back?" ?

This staff seems to like surprises and taking chances....

I still don't think he starts but I'm no longer saying "no way".

No, Josh Allen will be given the job as soon as he is ready. This is where the disagreement is. The Bills aren’t “trying out 3 guys to see who their guy will be.” They invested HEAVILY in a guy and have staked their careers on it. They aren’t testing them all out!! They are waiting for Allen to be ready. Those 2 things are very, very different.

Getting picked 6 times in 52 attempts isn’t better than zero attempts.

What do you mean by as soon as he's ready?

If Peterman is Bills starting QB week one and leads the Bills to a perfect season leading up to bye, where Peterman has, let's say a 15 tds 4 ints stat line, Allen isn't replacing him after the bye week at that point barring injury, even if he looks as fine and finished a product as the coaches could have ever imagined.

Just wouldn't happen.

That's why I disagree with you when you say this is solely about Josh Allen, how fast he can pick things up, and that they aren't testing out each guy.

They are.

If Allen's their guy heading into the season they are going to determine that early. They are testing out each QB to see how each performs during certain competition to determine  who's best suited to fill that starting role this season.

Perhaps you think I'm suggesting that they are in search of their franchise QB with the current QB competition.

I am not.

Knowing how to respond better to adversity having faced it, is greater than never having faced adversity.

Of the 6 INTS that you so like to mention, 5 came in one game.

Peterman never had another multiple INT game after that game vs. the Chargers.

Not even one two-interception game to speak of.

What do you know, Peterman showing some improvement in his sophomore season.

I'm amazed that so many here see AJ as some sort of superior talent.  Crazy.

As soon as he is ready isn't that complicated. The Bills traded up in the 1st round to get him. He isn’t a part of some mythical QB competition. He will be the starter as soon as the Bills think he’s ready regardless of who is in front of him now. Alex Smith played at an MVP level for much of last year and was jettisoned. Allen is their guy. He’s the guy that they are betting their careers on. If they are right, we move. If they are wrong, they are looking for work in 2 years. That’s the nature of the NFL.

We disagree on their plan. Their plan isn’t “let’s see which guy gives us the best chance to win?” Their plan is “as soon as Josh is ready, he plays.” It may not be week 1 or even 8. It may be 2019. There isn’t anyone though that will be keeping him on the bench when they deem him “ready.” That’s part of the reason that the Bills didn’t chase Keemun, Cousins or even keep Tyrod. They wanted a clear path for their guy, Allen.

If you say so.

The better QB will win.

Both McCarron and Peterman have played in regular season games that Josh Allen has yet to.

They have the advantage over Allen in the experience department...which goes a long way.

Your drunk with man-love for Peterman.  You could say you're in love with Petermans peter man.  Peterman's experience is GARBAGE.  Hot piles of garbage.  6 picks in 52 pass attempts is terrible and doesn't constitute anything meaningful.  At least McCarron looked like an NFL quarterback.

Like I've said before if Peterman proves he's at least as good as McCarron we can cut McCarron to save the cap space.

Cutting McCarron would result in $2m ADDITIONAL cap hit, not savings.  Cutting Peterman would save $400K.

I don’t believe that they would subject themselves to it failing. McCarron will be the guy if Allen isn’t ready and it will be Allen if he is ready.

I agree Allen plays whenever ready regardless of who is in front of them. I just dont think McCarron is default the guy to play if they deem Allen isnt ready. McD did draft Peterman and put him in to start over TT last year, there is obviously something they like about him

How are you logically getting from 2 TDs and 6 INTs in ~5 Quarters to 15 TDs and 4 INTs in 10 games? He isn't going to go from a 1:3 TD/INT to a ratio over 3:1 in an offseason. Also, we aren't going to go 10-0 with a QB putting up 1.5 TDs per game.

In the last 20 years, 94% of QBs drafted in the top ten started in their first year.  That stat alone should tell ANYONE with rudimentary football knowledge that it's not an open competition.  The Pick-erman apologists somehow want to believe that it's an open competition.  It simply is not.  There have been 33 QB's drafted in the top ten in the last 20 years.  They were all starters within a year and there were no "open competitions" to speak of.  IMO, the Bills knew in the offseason that Taylor wasn't their guy.  They stood clear of the race for the big 3 free agents because they intended to draft for the future.  They picked up McCarron, because they knew that Peterman was also not "the guy", and did so on the cheap.  It's pretty easy to see the reality (as you have) when someone isn't wearing their homer glasses.

This isn't right:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/a.j.-mccarron-14575/

If we cut McCarron now we save $200,000 in cap space this year. More importantly we save $5 million on next year's cap. Why would we keep McCarron over Peterman if he isn't clearly better?

No.  If we had cut him pre June 1, the hit would have been $2m to this year's cap.  Cutting him now would be $2m in dead cap to next year.  It's not saved.  Read the damned contract!  2-year contract with $4m bonus.  Bonus prorated over 2 years.

Click the red X under the scissors for the year 2018. It very clearly says for a post 6/1 release we would save $200,000 in 2018 cap. And a $2 million dead cap hit in 2019 instead of the $7 million cap hit we would have if we kept him.

Not sure what you're misreading but you are mistaken. The 2018 cap hit isn't the important part anyways. $5 million in 2019 could go a long way. It is incredibly obvious that Peterman is the preferable backup if he shows he can perform.

Isn't this exciting!  Like Shtupp and the Bulldog going round and round of the minutiae of the how and when of cap savings.  As for the arbiter of the dispute, 'Better Call Sal'.
