ProcessYaDigg Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Our biggest mistake was drawing up a contract that would allow Morrone to walk away and get paid for it. So dumb on our part. Then, we would still have Schwartz as our D-Coordinator, cuz that's his place, not HC.
machine gun kelly Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Ifs and butts and so on. It’s over. We have a great team now. Let it go. Revisionist history is fruitless.

RocCityRoller Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I'm thankful for the Ryans for ushering in the McBeane era. I think Gym Shorts is a great DC. But we have seen plenty of coordinators (OC and DC) that excel in that role but not HC. (Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, Gregg Williams etc) McDermott has the temperment, mentality and brains to be a very good HC. He did not lose the team after the horrible 2-3 game stretch last year. Guys stayed motivated, didn't pipe out on social media and the team circled the wagons. Good signs from a rookie HC keeping control and focus on the team. Not sure Jim S could have done that. 1

The post was about how after Marrone stiffed the Bills & the Bills had this kick butt D in place the coach of the unit was Jim Schwartz which had head coaching experience & has now put a Super Bowl ring on his finger . I for one was hoping they would keep him for the continuity part of him staying & through reading that article was wondering what you all thought about that ? I know the past is the past & i am glad in the direction that the Bills are taking but do you think if the Pegula's would have put Schwartz in the HC ing position it would have been better or worse than Rex ? And if your mother had balls she'd be your uncle. Who knows?
jr1 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 the D would be very similar to now, who knows what the O would be like
CowgirlsFan Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 The real question is where would this team be had McDermott been hired rather than Ryan.
habes1280 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I was all-in for Hue Jackson to be our head coach, with Schwartz remaining in place as the DC. Shows what I know. I was also all-in on Rosen over Allen, so let's hope the trend continues.

I love Schwartz as a DC but think he won't be a great HC. I think he'd have been better than Rex, particularly on defense, but not actually very good. And I have hopes that maybe the current group really will be very good down the road. So I think we're better off having suffered through the Rex era.

What if they extended Marrone? Would have saved $26m well $21m or so anyway Thankfully the Wrex era ended quickly and the Pegs fixed the mess they made.
papazoid Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 If Schwartz was HC #1 - you start with and keep that Top 5 Defense intact #2 - you don't waste draft picks and salary cap money converting to a 3-4 #3 - we would have been able to concentrate on improving the Offense #4 - for that team, hiring rex was a DISASTER which I put the blame on Russ Brandon who prioritized selling tickets and sponsorships (which rex provided) #5 - not convinced whaley would have gotten a franchise QB CONCLUSION: Bills would have enjoyed enough success that BOTH Schwartz and Whaley would still be here today. 1 1

GunnerBill Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 We'd have been better in 2015 and 2016.... I think we'd probably have made the dance in 2015 if we had been able to find someone to just be competent (we wouldn't have even needed Tyrod... less than Tyrod would have done) at QB. But I don't think it was a championship window and we might have gone something like 10-6, 8-8 and then fallen off a bit in 2017 when the roster started to churn (Mario gone, Kyle ageing, who knows with Dareus). I feel like this current regime gives us a chance to be set up for the long term.... ultimately it will come down to whether their gamble on Josh Allen works out or not.

They should have hired Schwartz, but suffering through Wrecks was worth it because McDermott is a special coach who is doing things the right way with the right system and the players love him. I don think this would have happened under Schwartz. 1
mead107 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 This is like asking if we had cheated like the patriots did, would we have won all 4 Super Bowls??
CommonCents Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 He is 29-52 as a HC. Maybe that defense could have carried him for a season before the inevitable drop. He is a coordinator not a HC. The guy asked his players to carry him off the field when the Bills beat the Lions, he is a goofball not a leader of men.
H2o Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 It's hard to say, but I believe Schwartz would have been more successful than Rex. The defenses would have been sick. It would be similar to his run in Detroit. With Schwartz as coach it's hard to say whether Tyrod would have ever been here though. Tyrod was a Rex guy. Incognito may have never been here either because Rex went after him. Schwartz would have surely been a better hire than Rex, but Whaley still would have been his GM. No telling where we would be right now.
uticaclub Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Would Mario Williams play dropped off so quickly? Would Orton would have still retired? Would be have signed Tyrod? Would we have traded for McCoy?
