ChevyVanMiller Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Somehow, I kinda admire this move. Knowing when to hang 'em up is often a lost art. http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/mets-minor-leaguer-gives-up-14-runs-in-three-innings-immediately-retires-after-game/ar-AAyodJq?ocid=ientp
Dante Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Why would they even write this story? Publicizing how bad he is. A kinda shittey thing to do.
Misterbluesky Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Now the Mets have two bad managers in their system.
The Real Buffalo Joe Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Damn shame. I really liked Aaron Laffey. Spent a considerable amount of time playing for the Bisons actually. I remember one game he went 9 innings, and had like seven double plays.

LeviF Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 When I read the headline all I thought was, "when did Vargas get relegated to AAA?"

Why would they not write about it? How is it "shittey"? By that logic they should not have reported on the game or posted the box score. If anything, his retirement makes the player look like he made a rationale decision. 1
Gray Beard Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 He’s 33 years old. He knew he was done. Non story. Probably a smart move. I wish him well.

He was 33 and a 9 year veteran. Probably realised at that point it's time to give it up and call it a career. When I first read it I was expecting some young kid who just snapped and quit 1

SinceThe70s Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 14 runs in 3 innings? Talk about taking one for the team. Pitching staff must have been stretched ridiculously thin to leave him in for that long. What a shame to go out like that.
4merper4mer Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Isn't 14 runs in three innings historically about average for a doormat franchise like the Mets? 1
SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 So our resident TBD Mets fan tried out and failed?
Another Fan Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 In my more ignorant days when I was a teenager I’d of found this story pretty funny. Someone who just doesn’t have or had that skill set anymore to compete and was considered a has been. But hey ball players change like everyone. Hope this kid does well elsewhere
