BillsFan4 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 (edited) Boo! No Dahlin. No Thompson. No Borgen. No Guhle. Sitting Luukkonen for Jonas Johansson. Edited September 10, 2018 by BillsFan4
BillsFan4 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Wow! Now that was fun. 10-2 Buffalo. Nylander with 2+2 Asplund with 1+3 (and that 1g was an absolute highlight reel goal) Mittelstadt with 3 A’s Good game by pretty much everyone tonight. Much better system play and teamwork compared to that bruins game.
ChevyVanMiller Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Sabres needed to win by six goals or more to take the tournament title ended up cruising to an eight goal differential in this game. The future looks bright!

Only one high draft pick (a 2nd rounder) and virtually everyone else was round 5-7 or undrafted. If that's the future pipeline for the Penguins, Crosby and Malkin better play until their 60s like Gordie Howe did... Edited September 10, 2018 by Lurker
K-9 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 I'm going to predict that Asplund makes the big club this year. He's well seasoned after three full seasons as a pro in Sweden and is better than anyone else we can slot in as a 4th line center. Good-bye Larsson.

26CornerBlitz Posted September 11, 2018 Author Posted September 11, 2018 This past weekend, the blue-and-gold faithful saw Thompson in action for the first time and his performance in the annual Prospects Challenge in downtown Buffalo left spectators wanting more. While he certainly acquitted himself well against other prospects, did he do enough to convince the organization that is he ready for a full-time role with the big club next season? The answer remains to be seen, but the hulking forward certainly brings a certain skill set to the table that the Sabres have been lacking. 1

I think people forget how good Eichel and Skinner have been without anyone elite paired with them. Together, they should be dynamite.

BillsFan4 Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Just watched the Tampa Bay press conference. Boy, Julien BriseBois inspires a lot of confidence. You can see why is was so highly thought of and in demand around the NHL. I think he is going to be a very good GM for Tampa. They have what seems to be a great owner too. He also inspired a lot of confidence in this move. But he pissed me off with his comment about “we are so lucky that some other NHL team didn’t steal JB from us”. Lucky? You guys outright refused to even let him interview for GM jobs. I don’t know how many requests they denied, but I know it was multiple. Buffalo tried to interview him before they hired Botterill and Tampa refused the request. I gor got the impression that Steve Y. is gone once his contract is up at the end of this year. It sounds like he made this decision in part to spend more time with his family, but also because he did not want to renew his GM contract with Tampa. Whether the reason for that is truly to spend more time with his family or not will be determined by what he does in the next year or two. 1 hour ago, shrader said: I don't know how long it will take, but this will all lead to Yzerman returning to Detroit. I don’t know if he would be willing to let Detriot fire Holland in order to replace him. It may have to wait until Holland’s deal is up in 2 years. Unless Holland leaves willingly, to join Seattle or something like that. But yeah I could totally see that happening eventually. It makes too much sense not to happen. He spent his entire 22 year career as a player there (age 18-40) and then got his start as an executive there. It seems like it’s only a matter of time until he’s back as the GM/team president.
