[Incomplete Title] Sabres (21-12-5) & NHL 2018-19 - Game 39 (MSG-B) vs. BOS (20-14-4) at 7 PM ET on 12/29

Recommended Posts

Carter Hutton will start in net, looking to improve on a career-best six-game personal winning streak. He's posted a .933 save percentage and a 1.99 goals-against average in that span.

The Sabres are already on their best streak as a team since winning the first 10 contests of a Presidents' Trophy-winning campaign in 2006-07. A win or overtime loss would give them points in eight straight games for the first time since a nine-game run from March 10 to 27, 2012.

Coverage on MSG-B begins at 3:30 p.m. with the GMC Game Night pregame show, or you can listen live on WGR 550. The puck drops at 4.

Projected Lineup

19 Jake McCabe - 55 Rasmus Ristolainen
26 Rasmus Dahlin - 4 Zach Bogosian
Marco Scandella / 82 Nathan Beaulieu* - 8 Casey Nelson

40 Carter Hutton
35 Linus Ullmark

*Scandella (lower body) is a game-time decision

Price has played better recently than he did earlier in the season but he's nowhere near the guy they thought they were getting when they paid him all that money.

It doesn't matter to me who starts in goal but if I were  a player on a hot team, it would be pretty motivating to see teams continue to put their backup in the net.

Very often stats don't reflect the performance of the goaltender. In the post game reporting of this game Biron made the point that Montreal's goaltiending hasn't been a bright spot because much of that is due to the lackluster play of the the defense. He also made the point that Shea Weber is due to soon  come back and that should help the rating of the goaltenders.

In this game although Skinner got the first star for his two goals I would have given Hutton the first star, or at least the second star to him. What's really impressive about his very consistent game is that he rarely gives up rebounds.

Some observations: Montreal is not a big and hard hitting team. But what is impressive about them is that they can skate and are quick with the puck.

Tage Thompson is steadily getting better. You can see his skating, shooting and stick handling ability. Although he isn't accomplished at battling for the puck you can see him putting in the effort. He's not the defensive liability that he was in his early game. Hats off to Housley and his staff in working with the young players such as Dahlin, Mittelstadt and Thompson.

I'm happy for the fans, especially those at the games. And Jack is a great captain who is invested in the success of the team.
