B-Man Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Infuriating: Who knew plastic straw bans could lead to stories like this one,........ except everybody?
row_33 Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 When socialists take over they throw that kind of disabled man in a hospital and then euthanize him quietly and society is better off

I'd have tried to pick up the glass and immediately spilled it all over the table and floor. If I was really in a pissy mood I'd then tell the waitress to expect a lawsuit for ruining my breakfast.

Chef Jim Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 I'm not disabled however it is a pain to drink out of a glass full of ice without a straw. I've never had an issue with not getting a straw when I ask for one. If the restaurant was smart they'd use paper straws. This is not a ban on straws it's a ban on plastic straws. Yeah the paper ones suck but have them and give them to anyone with a drink. 1
Nanker Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Explain to me like I’m five, just exactly how do those straws get from the land of California all the way out into the middle of the North Pacific Ocean. I’m curious.

I’m curious. Answer is they don’t! That’s one of the dumbest feel good, do nothing, dumbest laws in a long line of dumb laws we deal with here in the once Golden State. 2
Nanker Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Found it. Milo Cress’s science project when he was 9 years old pulled a number out of thin air. But it it still doesn’t explain how the straws get into the Pacific Ocean. Maybe he can turn his focus on a real problem like empty Nip bottles that litter our roadsides.

They are much more interested in creating feel-good laws that don't do a damn thing than actually addressing problems such as sidewalk encroaching persons, doing their level best to keep diseases like typhus from becoming extinct. 1
Wacka Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 They floated down the rivers in Asia from the dumps in Southeast Asia and China and then into the Pacific.

The best part of that article is the picture of the Starbucks cup with the "new flat plastic lid that does not need a straw." 1
B-Man Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM SAYS REPUBLICAN PARTY IS HEADED ‘INTO THE WASTE BIN OF HISTORY.’ I eagerly await Paul Krugman’s stern condemnation of such dehumanizing eliminationist rhetoric.
KD in CA Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Today was 'pronoun day' at work. I realize the few of you still living in sane parts of the world will require an explanation, but I'm not sure I fully comprehended the event. I just know I (like 95% of my co-workers) avoided the colorful stickers placed around the office.

I just know I (like 95% of my co-workers) avoided the colorful stickers placed around the office. This day is soon approaching where I work, as well. I am also in the insane state of CA. I am going to also have to choose different pronoun forms to be included within my email signature. I am thinking of going with he/her/his, then periodically switching it up to she/him/hers (because who are they to say I am not feeling gender fluid?!), just to keep all these bastards on their toes, while simultaneously being the HR departments worst nightmare.

Oh goodness....it honestly didn't occur to me it could be any more absurd. I don't even know what this means....where do you put a pronoun in an email signature? Like this? KD ("him") in CA

"Progress" dictates that the 99.9% of people whose brains and bodies work in harmony with each other, be made to feel as uncomfortable as the 0.1% who have a disconnect. Being more than 3 standard deviations from the mean is no longer permitted to be considered an outlier. I don't think you are supposed to understand it. Edited June 18, 2019 by Hedge
SoCal Deek Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 My brother works in middle management at Google out here in California. They’re sending management to Austin for ‘diversity training’. I asked him what they were trying to fix, and he tells me they have too many Indian and Asian men working there. I busted up laughing! Apparently they have too many minority employees. And this from a company that pretends to know how to do everything and wants to teach us all how to be ‘woke’!
