Do you think they just handed the job to some Starbucks barista?

That is is just about exactly what they tried to do in the FAA, until the Senate hearings, wherein the candidate was so clueless that he lost even Dem support and withdrew his name.

When the LA fire chief herself along with the LA fire department makes who she chooses to engage in sex with the most critical qualification for her appointment to the position and then makes it a priority to hire firefighters on the basis of their immutable characteristics and not their qualifications TO FIGHT FRIGGIN FIRES, then yes we are allowed to criticize the leaders in charge when they spectacularly fail to FIGHT FIRES given their previously stated priorities.

Roundy the useful idiot is done coping and seething and instead focusing that rage into doubling down on the useful idiocy.

How about applying conservative, market-based principles here? We are subsidizing people to live in places like Malibu by artificially limiting their insurance premiums. Let the market work, let Malibu depopulate.

In a rationale market it would not depopulate, property prices would simply decline to a level, that allows the owners to pay appropriate insurance premiums.

What would you like them to do differently to fight these fires, specifically?

This has nothing to do with the fire chief’s qualifications. I’m simply stomping @aristocrat’s claim that she was an unqualified DEI hire into the mud.

But you're not though. There's way more to a fire department than the chief.

Do you think the LA Fire Department did a good job preparing for this possible event? Do you think they have done a good job reacting to the event? Do you imagine there was any room for improvement?

Aristocrat specifically called out the chief as a DEI hire.

I think they would have done a better job preparing for it if their budget didn’t get slashed.

Further, there’s not a lot you can do when you have houses that are not built for this climate located next to invasive (and flammable!) eucalyptus trees in a desert climate.

I think they are doing a good a job as they can given the circumstances.

You can't say there doing a good job and then say it would be better if there was more budget available.

“given the circumstances”

The architecture is all wrong for this area. The newer builds using concrete and metal roofs are surviving. The old 1950s bungalows built en masse are not.

Since the big majority of voters cast their ballots for the current Mayor, I expect they were okay with her job performance until their houses burned down. This apocalyptic event, no matter what excuses they might make, is likely another nail in the coffin of the Neo-liberal cult.

They had no problem giving the stupid police more money. Why is that?

Exactly. Should have been the other way around.

Maybe the police can use their new “protest obliterator 9000 tanks” on the fires

Oh maybe California can actually prosecute criminals? God forbid.

Your unwillingness to answer is the answer.

How do you feel about Soros receiving our nation’s highest civilian award from President Brandon? My understanding is that he dabbled a little bit in the Los Angeles area justice system.

I agree they are doing as good of a job as they can. But I am confident others could have done a better job.
