The story isn’t “Roseanne got fired because ABC is run by a bunch of liberals.” The story is “Roseanne got fired for saying dumb, racist stuff.” Let’s not lose sight of that... Let's also not lose sight of the fact that this is the land of false equivalencies and the "yeah, well what about..." defense. Left wingnuts like Olbermann ranting about politics and looking like an ass is a FAR cry from tone deaf idiots like Roseanne making blatant, PERSONAL racist remarks. Advertisers have shown ZERO tolerance for that recently and, as popular as Roseanne's show was, Disney and its vast network have other advertiser-supported shows to worry about now and in the future. 1

No, are we done with her finally?

unbillievable Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 (edited) The current trend is for liberals to smear advertisers reputation so they flee a show/network to save their image. It works because it's easy to switch to "safer" ways to market their products. The left tried boycotting but had neither the will nor participation to effect change. On the other hand, Conservatives just choose to stop watching, causing declines for ESPN, NFL, etc. These networks can't solve the problem of boycotts as easily, so they walk the tight-rope. And since the majority of their industry leans left, it's not like they have much choice in the content, either. They can only hope to enact policies that tone down the liberal rhetoric from their shows, to a level most people can tolerate. That is why I believe it feels like a double standard, because there is one... the left just needs to give their allies an excuse, while the right is fighting the nature of the beast. Maybe he will bring back his blackface Oprah mocking character for the night...or maybe they can play the game he came up with, Hungry Hungry Oprahs, with the brown hippo caricatures during the monologue. Gotta love selective outrage and celebrity hypocrisy. Rosanne is an idiot and a horrible person, but there are many more that get a pass because they are left wingers. Parody, mockery and satire are forms of comedy. If you can't tell the difference between them and comparing an African American an ape in 2018, head on back to 1960 where you belong. 7

That’s why Roseanne shouldn’t have been crucified for her Hitler baking cookies bit, which she did for a satire magazine called “Heeb.” I say “shouldn’t have” but her history of bigoted and racist remarks disqualifies her from that benefit of the doubt. Which is a shame because satire is such a powerful tool and people, especially younger people, would be well served to remember that.
DrDawkinstein Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 (edited) Not to give her too much credit, but this is about as good of an apology as anyone could give. Takes full responsibility for her actions, and makes it publicly known exactly why what she did was wrong. https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/roseanne-barr-returns-to-twitter-‘don’t-feel-sorry-for-me’/ar-AAy0iqT?ocid=ientp If more people were willing to take this responsibility for their actions, and be this aware, we'd be in a much better place as a nation. Dressing in blackface to mock someone in the name of comedy is OK? I guess I didn't realize that and thought blackface was off limits. I must not be up to speed in 2018. And I clearly stated that Rosanne is a horrible person and did not for a second defend her ignorant, racist comments. Edited May 30, 2018 by chknwing334

Kimmel also dressed up as Karl Malone and Charles Barkley. None of them were done in "black face". Mimicking or parodying a celebrity is a hell of a lot different then the origins of black face and why that particular thing is no longer acceptable. Why the !@#$ does that even need to be explained? And thanks for making me defend friggin' Jimmy Kimmel. 1

And I'll add athletes to that, as well; especially young athletes with legitimate shots to go pro. Once it's out there, it's out there forever. Just ask Josh Allen.

Social Media makes that very easy. It's basically a required part of the job in order to keep pace with the competition. The problem is, these celebrities arent hiring PR people to do their tweeting for them. Edited May 30, 2018 by DrDawkinstein 1
apuszczalowski Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 The internet could be what ends up destroying humanity It needs to go back to what it was I tended for. Buying thing without having to get dressed and leave your home, watching home videos of people or animals falling down and or getting hurt, getting scammed by African Royalty, Netflix, and easily accessible pornography. Everything else is just leading to the world becoming a worse place.
