OldTimeAFLGuy Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 ...this whole thing is effing infuriating.... ...it is neither religious or political versus honoring a symbol of this country.....the progressives and their war on history is as revolting and despicable as ever....can't say the Pledge because of "God"....OMG, "God" is on our money but the sure as hell can spend it......they want to undo the very history this country was built on as if we are a nation of shame...NFL in an employer and being an employee is a privilege and not a right.....if playing the anthem is standard operating procedure and a CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT is you stand, then you do it.....we as employers in other industries have conditions of employment period.....one is that public expression of views involving race, creed color, sexual preference, political or social issues while in the "care ,custody and control of your employer (ie. while at work) is not permitted....what you do legally on your time is your own business.....any illegal activity during work or outside of work is subject to review for possible action including termination.... 1 1

The NFL could have nipped this in the bud last September by not being so passive when the kneeling started. There was nothing that precluded the players from kneeling nor should there have been IMO. 2

Well, there kind of was, though it is a grey area and there were no fines associated. https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/09/25/does-nfl-require-players-stand-national-anthem from September, 2017 "The NFL rulebook makes no mention of the national anthem. But the game operations manual does. Here’s what the game operations manual says regarding the national anthem, according to an NFL spokesperson:" "The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses." "It’s important to note the use of the word “may” here. The NFL is not considering punishing fines on players or teams who choose to kneel or stay in the locker room during the national anthem, the spokesperson says."

Players were required to be on the field, but they did not have to stand or do anything other than be present for the anthem. This is old news that has been discussed many times. Standing was not mandatory.
