Seattle to Tax Jobs

Recommended Posts

Saw this on vice tonight. Why address the real issue (mental health and drug abuse) when clearly putting everyone in a house is the real answer.

As as a side note I love the hipster attitude of “Amazon is driving up housing costs!” Amazon hasn’t even made a selection on HQ2 and people in Atlanta are already freaking out. The beauty of it all is that these are the same douchebags that had no problem displacing poorer folks who occupied their trendy neighborhoods prior to them, but as soon as a bigger fish shows up in the pond the wailing begins.

Speaking of HQ2, my suspicion has been that given the business and political climate in Seattle the intent of HQ2 was for Amazon to gradually and quietly relocate their enterprise to a friendlier environment

Wouldn’t surprise me. Atlanta (well Georgia really) has been faulted for being too conservative and not in line with Amazons values. Well.....we shall see.

Amazon is a steamroller that's both good and bad.

It's really a matter of perspective, I think... If you have jobs and a nice economy in your city (which I find hard to believe), Amazon is unwanted because it disrupts the status quo. If you have no jobs, and no economy, then you ought to beg amazon to come to the city.

Seattle city councilwoman says Amazon is selfish for not wanting to help with the homeless... Oh boy. Where would your city be without one of the largest companies in the world dumping jobs and revenue into it?

BS government at it's finest right here.

  Let Amazon pull up stakes and relocate.  See how that affects your homeless problem.

The thread title calls it a job tax and your link calls it a head tax.  It blows either way.

It is a topic that deserves well thought out discussion but when politics are involved, who knows.  My guess is that this head job thing will have a premature explosive climax and leave everyone involved with a big sticky mess on their hands.

You obviously don't understand the limitations of a head tax. Rather than dismissing it out of hand and only giving it lip service, a proper head tax takes it all in and leaves no evidence behind. You suck.

How many ways can this question be phrased?

Do colleges pay job tax?

Do colleges pay head?

Does Higher Ed pay job tax?

Do colleges give job tax?

Something or someone's gotta give

Some good case studies of socialism vs capitalism:

  1. North and South Korea were equally poor when they split in 1945. Now NK is one of the poorest countries in the world and SK is one of the wealthiest.
  2. Venezuela was the richest country in South America before converting to socialism in 1999. Now they're the poorest.
  3. Western Europe started out with immense wealth, but having converted to socialism in the mid 20th century, they're depleting their wealth, though they had so much to begin with, they still have a ways to go before it's all gone.
  4. China was poor and backward in 1945 but allowed capitalism in the 80's and now they're on course to be the world's biggest economy.
  5. The USSR started out poor, never converted to capitalism, and stayed poor until dissolved and reverted to being Russia.
  6. America was poor and backward compared to Europe in 1776, but capitalism flourished beginning in the 19th century and America became world leader in almost everything: wealth, health, education, freedom, standard of living, technology, science, engineering, and military power--all of which is now eroding we convert to socialism.
