Just because you don’t know the evidence doesn’t mean the allegations without merit

I had the same thought when I read that post. The writer didn’t accuse Patricia of anything in the article nor was their anything unfounded as what he reported on is a matter of public record.

I have to question both the timing of and motivation behind the article, though. Is it both a hit piece on Patricia and an indictment of the Lions’ vetting process?

Probably a little bit of both but definitely it makes the Lions/ Pats look bad if they really couldn’t find out this information but a reporter could.  It’s like when the nfl claimed they couldn’t get a tape from the Ray Rice incident at a casino yet TMZ could.  Either they are liars or morons.

but if he really didn’t do anything wrong, it’s sad that an allegation can follow you around for life.  I personally believe if someone files a false allegation, they should be charged with a crime.

It is against the law to file false allegations. Filing a false police report can be either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending. One can also be sued for defamation as well.

But I think suing for defamation is a lengthy and expensive process, right?

Yes and it can be difficult to substantiate harm to your reputation.

But lying to an officer of the law by making a false accusation is a crime, regardless, and much easier to prove.

Fair question.

Until given reason otherwise I tend to start at “probably just happened to find it when playing in the database for something else” on timing for stuff like this.  Then follow to “reporter probably thought he’d get clicks” before jumping to ideas like hit piece.

But there definitely could be more underlying the motivation. I just don’t give a ton of credit to local sports reporters having grand plans in most cases.

Odd that after All these years, this has become a story.
Cheap shots from todays media , ruining #metoo being a feel good story and twisting it into a pisspoor opportunity to create news. The guy has made it this far in Life with out this being news after the initial " incident".

 National Enquirer style journalism .

Now if the woman had come forth and was trying to get justice. Then it is worth the effort to extract the truth and the story, perhaps.
why was this brought up ? and who is driving the agenda ?

Good post. On both points.

Now, the NFL is "investigating the matter"....oh dear God. Ray Rice knocks a woman unconscious in the elevator and it's on video and he gets a lame suspension, but what is impossible to prove 20 years later, *that* the NFL will take seriously....woof!

I'm all for justice, but it should be according to due process and Constitutional limits as decided by the Supreme Court. This man is being crucified for something that is "alleged" to have occurred so long ago, those born that year and just now buy alcohol legally.

The title is also misleading. The 5 witnesses are not actually "witnesses", they are professionals brought in to the investigation based on their role, with the exception of the potential victim. Additionally, the Chief of Police said what most of us are thinking: it's not really about the sex, it's about the consent. And like I posted days ago, there is probably some degree of truth on both sides but here we are....a legally innocent man's name dragged through the mud for something that *might* have happened. This is the kind of stuff that I really disagree with as it provides no true value to society at large due to the legal restraints and timelines and yet, continues to be a hotbed of discussion and possibly tarnishing a man's reputation.

Things get brushed under the radar by local news and others who do not see value in stories like this.  It happens a lot for UNC, Duke, etc in the RDU.

We don't hear much about the ball players getting pulled over in rental cars etc.
