So he goes from having a "I don't know if I have it left in me" moment after a five pick performance against Jacksonville to a Tom-Brady-esque "I'm playing forever" thing.

Dude has ontemplated retirement every offseason for the last 2-3 years, and he wonders why the Steelers drafted a QB. lol

He did finally say this year that he wants to play 3-5 more years but he still said he will still take it a year at a time and see how his body feels... you can't blame Pittsburgh for drafting a backup plan.

Seems to me an established guy says something like this: "Does this mean they screwed up the Dobbs pick?", when there is an actual threat on the team to unseat him.

No one thought Landrey or Dobbs were threats to Big Ben, but Rudolph did have a heck of a lot of production at the FBS level in a major conference, and is probably Ben's best roster competition yet.

Shut up, Ben.  Do you hear Brady b*tching in public about all the QB New England has drafted in rounds where they could get a really good player who could help the team win now?  Which team has won more?

Not only has he questioned his longevity - a backup is likely to see snaps and having a good one may help you win now as opposed to a depth player elsewhere

at the very least, it will allow them time to see if this guy can be the next man up, or if they need to keep looking. better to find out sooner rather than later. it can really be an inconvenience to wait until you absolutely need a qb to get one.

Ben Ro is feeling the heat of a possible successor being there in place. He feels threatened by Rudolph's presence it seems. Odd, considering he was only a 3rd Round pick. Either way, he's been a dick talking about retirement on numerous occasions and now acting like a lil ho when they draft a guy who could replace him after a year or two.
