It's a good take.

I personally believe if Beane REALLY wanted to get to 2, it wouldn't have been a lowball offer.

I are you sure?

It looks like he forgot to add the Bison's tickets ;)

I think the takeaway from Buffalo's draft is that Beane didn't really want to get to #2, and they are more than satisfied with Josh Allen as the "consolation prize" for only getting up to #7.  Gettleman's quote isn't about the Bills.

Patriots could have easily offered 3 first round picks and all 3 would have likely been in the 20s - 30s.  That's my guess and it's no wonder they said no.  Really any playoff team could have offered a 1st round pick in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

GM Speak

Gettleman would be a fool to say that he had an offer of 3 first round picks+ but decided to stay at #2 and draft the least valuable position in football.

This, 10000%.

"Yeah, you know, I passed on three first round picks and a second because I really wanted a RB at #2, who I'm gonna be paying top3 salary immediately, when I could have gotten one 85% as good for 50% the price in the second"

I think the Giants wanted to trade down and still get Barkley and the Browns wanted to trade down and still get Ward.  There just wasn't any way to put it all together.  I think Darnold was our #1 and we tried to get him, but since it couldn't happen we were happy to not give up nearly as much and roll the dice on Allen.

Gettleman is a clown. There is a reason the guy was not very well liked by the players in Carolina.

Now hes made his bed with a second overall RB who is, if I'm not mistaken among the highest paid at his position and will almost certainly lose ROY to a third or later round RB.
