I agree about him being the Center but not about the pro-bowl. He should be serviceable at best like he was in CIN.

We are having a good conversation about the O-line. It's not as bleak as it looked, but I think we agree OT is an area of need. Plenty of solid options at C/G

If he didn't give up a sack last year, why does everyone say he sucks? Did the other guys cover for him? Was he just lucky? 1

Both of those guys come from oline factories. I think Groy especially deserves a chance, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was a top ten guard next season.
oldmanfan Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 If this rookie can take one of the guard spots, we'll be better. Ducasse actually played fairly well the last part of last season, and Groy really wasn't much of a drop off if any from Wood two seasons ago. Dawkins will be fine at LT, and RT continues to be an area where someone has to step up. overall not great but not horrid

richardb1952 Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 DeBeer is Currently measuring in at 6-foot-7 and 312 pounds.
Call_Of_Ktulu Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 The Patriots don't draft O-line because they teach everyone how to hold without getting caught. You dont need elite O-Line talent when you do that. I've rewatched the super bowl 5 times and the offensive holding that both teams get away with is the most that I have seen in any Super Bowl.
MrEpsYtown Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 I still think it makes sense to go sign Luke Joeckel to play LG and have the rest of the guys compete. I'm hoping and praying McDermott wins the RT job and Newhouse is the swing guy who could also play guard. Mills goes and bags groceries somewhere, I dont think they will will have their backup center be a starter elsewhere so I think one of Groy or Bodine start, or they both start and they keep another C who can play guard to backup. In my world... Dawkins Joeckel Groy Tiller McDermott Backups Bodine Newhouse Miller or Vlad

We lost 60% of our starters this off season due to trades and retirements. It's a big rebuild on the O-line. Let's look at our current depth (UDFA included) to see where the Bills stand now on O-line Center: Russell Bodine 6-3 308 25 5th North Carolina (4th RD Bengals, 4 yr starter for the Bengals) Ryan Groy 6-5 320 27 5th Wisconsin (UDFA 2014 Bears, spelled Eric wood for multiple games in 2016, considered C/G) Adam Redmond 6-6 300 24 1st Harvard (UDFA 2016 Indy, on and off practice squad before Bills signed him, considered C/G) Guards: Vlad Ducasse 6-5 329 30 9th UMASS (2nd NYJ, played LT in college, journeyman, solid G per PFF) John Miller 6-3 315 24 4th Louisville (3rd BUF, named among PFF most improved players between 2015 and 2016, didn't fit zone scheme 2017) Wyatt Teller 6-4 314 23 R VA Tech (5th BUF, All ACC) Ike Boettger 6-6 310 xx R Iowa (UDFA BUF, Played both G/T, many injuries, never found a position, 5.39 grade) Tackles: Dion Dawkins 6-5 320 24 2nd Temple (2nd BUF, originally considered a LG or RT prospect, played LT in 11 games out of need in 2017 and held his own) Jordan Mills 6-5 316 27 6th LA Tech (5th CHI, journeyman with DAL and DET before landing with Bills. RT since 2015) Connor McDermott 6-8 320 25 2nd UCLA (6th NE, 2nd team PAC12 at LT, 4.98 grade) Marshall Newhouse 6-4 330 29 8th TCU (5th GB, starting LT in 2011-2012 when Pack went 15-1 and 11-5, Journeyman until 2017 Raiders started 14 games at RT) De'Ondre Wesley 6-6 331 25 3 BYU (UDFA BAL, 0 starts) Gerhard de Beer 6-7 262 xx R AZ (UDFA BUF, 4.8 grade) Mo Porter 6-6 310 xx R Baylor (UDFA BUF, LT in senior season, ungraded) I would build the line as LT - Dawkins/Newhouse LG - Groy/Teller C - Bodine/ Groy RG - Miller/ Ducasse RT- Mills/ Newhouse Key Reserves: C/G - Groy, Redmond G - Ducasse T -Newhouse PS - McDermott and Porter I think O-line was missed during the 4th and early 5th rounds, I hope those picks work out. What would you do? It's not a great Oline but not the worst either, I thought both Teller and De Beer were solid gets for us, teller will most certainly push those in front of him imo but in the end I think the Oline you have listed is exactly what it will be at the start of the season LT Dawkins, LG Groy, OC Bodine, RG Miller, RT Mills.
OldTimeAFLGuy Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 ....food for thought and probably a baseless opinion....McBeane waited for the UFA feeding frenzy and dust to settle when agents come looking to get their clients employed who were not signed.....a/k/a McCarron and got him on HIS terms.....wouldn't surprise me one bit if McBeane is hiding in the bushes waiting for pre or post June 1 cuts to grab OL vets on a one year deal when their agents come calling for work....nice way to groom these young kids.....just a hunch......... 1

TPS Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 They stole McDermott off of the Pats’ PS, so I doubt very much they think they can put him on their PS and not lose him.
Mat68 Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Out of Bodine or Groy whichever tis not the center is the LG imo. I think its Groy at Center Bodine at LG. Come TC I would not be surprised to see Richie show back up too.

CIN let him go and he signed with the Bills for cheap. In this years draft the Bengals drafted their new Center in the 1st round with the pick we traded up with Glenn. He Has been at best serviceable. Maybe he can improve in a new environment.

Didn’t see the interview but I’m assuming it sounded something like this, “We’re excited about Jordan. We are excited about all of our guys. He’s worked really hard this offseason and we are confident in his abilities.”

Talked about him being one of the leaders on the team. 1
