BuffaloRush Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) Pretty good article from Mike Schoop here. There have many several members in this forum that are optimistic about the prospect of starting McCarron or Peterman this season and not drafting a rookie QB behind them. http://www.wgr550.com/articles/opinion/draft-hype-both-exciting-and-nauseating “ The Bills sign a backup quarterback. Callers to talk shows see two things: 1.) A sports story they can relate to, one of a hard-working guy that never really had a chance before. This is how things go in movies. These fans might even see the player as getting an opportunity that they in their lives haven't gotten, but have yearned for. (We presume backups are hard-working because they haven't been glorified, which is a faulty assumption. Maybe they're backups because they're not hard-working?) 2.) They hear "the media", in their minds, demeaning the player by taking what's really only an objective appraisal of the situation. The result is what these fans love -- an opportunity to tell the same media people, probably people they see as undeservedly entitled, to flick off.” Edited April 24, 2018 by BuffaloRush 1
Putin Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 That’s the same guy who still believes that Alex Smith would not be an upgrade over Tyrod , 1
Tatonka68 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 How can you say yeah or nay unless you see them play. There is a reason you are a little talk show host and not an NFL scout.
jrober38 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Bills fans get enamoured with the backup QB every year. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brian Brohm, Jeff Tuel, Nathan Peterman, and now AJ McCarron. It's the same thing every year with a guy who supposedly "didn't get a chance" who is somehow going to get that chance and take it with us. Good thing it looks like we're going to draft someone in the 1st round with real pedigree this year and we don't have to talk about journeyman backups any longer. 7 2
Lagoon Blues Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Something about Opinions and a body part......Mike is over sized in both. 1

Guest K-GunJimKelly12 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 It's like 5 % of Bills fans or less. Schoop is a hack.

Fitz actually led one of the Bills' best Offenses since the drought, Brohm was a 2nd round selection and a Heisman candidate at one point so it's not like he was some scrub, and Peterman was just a guy fans "hoped" would be better at Quarterbacking than the dude who didn't turn the ball over but failed to throw or threw high / low / wide. As for Tuel, yeah that was pure desperation, otherwise take a quote from the movie American President in reference to leadership (just substitute QB) "They're so thirsty for it, they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand."

He was dead to me from that day on... Edited April 24, 2018 by ChevyVanMiller 1

Not fan of Mike, but he’s being very logical in his assessment. Far too often gets get overly optimistic about the QB 3

Don't forget Levi Brown and Tyrod Taylor - both had their share of our affections for a time. Oddly I can't recall anyone getting any Tarvaris Jackson or Thad Lewis love. Am I missing it?
rodneykm Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Its pretty silly to have be absolutely sure someone is going to suck without giving them a proper chance. I'd rather be optimistic than pessimistic in life though. 2

If there was someone clearly worth a damn in front of the backup maybe there would be a little less outcry for the next in line (though there was a contingent calling for Reich in the Kelly years, so apparently that voice will never be entirely silenced regardless of who the starter is).

It’s fine but some fans aren’t reasonable with their expectations. But Peterman and McCarron will get their chance in camp. Hopefully, they will get beat out by our 1st round qb.
