What were the 2017 predictions of the 2018 QB class?

Recommended Posts

I've tried to go back in time on the internet and find out what people were saying before and immediately after the 2017 draft.  What did they think in 2017 we would have for QB candidates in 2018?     Did they say we had a good QB class coming up?   Did they have them ranked differently?   Did one of our present "sure fire franchise QB's" get to his present high status by questionable means?    (Was it a great single  year for him in 2017-2018?  Was it a bandwagon effect set loose by clever sports writers or talking-up-their-commission agents?)    Can't find but a single article.   I'm interested for several reasons.    It would help to get a clue about what to expect in 2019.  It might make us wonder how solid some of the QB ranking/reputation are.  If they were all over the map different between the time of the 2017 draft and now,,,,, why was there such a difference in the view and does it make sense.

Did anybody save them or could they find them?    (I'm going to copy some present 2019 predictions for looking at next year)

The only thing I found was this Jan 2, 2018 piece.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2018-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-mason-rudolph-reclaims-top-qb-spot-roquan-smith-rising/

It has  #10 Mason, #12 Jackson, #17 Rosen, and #22 Darnold.

help?

Here's some of ESPN's stuff:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2018/insider/story/_/id/19350616/way-too-early-2018-nfl-draft-big-board-best-prospects-rankings-mel-kiper

- On his big board, Mel Kiper had Darnold #1, Allen #3, and Rosen #7. Nobody else made the top 25.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2017/insider/story/_/id/19294111/todd-mcshay-way-too-early-2018-mock-draft-nfl-draft

- McShay published a "way too early mock draft" in which Darnold, Allen, and Rosen went 1-2-3.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2018/insider/story/_/id/19351953/mel-kiper-way-too-early-2018-nfl-draft-rankings-top-prospects-every-position

- Mel Kiper's "way too early rankings" were split between Seniors and Underclassmen

Seniors (in order): Rudolph, Luke Falk, Baker Mayfield, Matt Linehan, Mike White

Underclassmen: Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Lamar, Clayton Thorson (will be in the 2019 draft)

Generally speaking, it was believed that Darnold, Allen, and Rosen were all elite prospects. Nobody else was really expected to go in the 1st round, but Rudolph/Falk/Lamar were considered the next tier. Mayfield was seen as probably a Day 3 prospect.
