Never understood why not

Me neither, they go through so much putting the schedule together, but they cannot come up with a time to announce it, up until the last minute?

They also make everything such a spectacle- you’d think they would play this up too

It already is a spectacle.

Devoting a two hour show on NFL Network about the schedule dates? Yeesh!

I don't blame them for that. It's their network and they do need football stuff to talk about during the off-season.

I don't think it is done until the last minute to tell you the truth

When does the schedule come out

I read that the NFL was looking at announcing it on April 17th, but that was back in February.

But they could do lead up and teasers and have papa johns do pizza specials and teams do silly unveiling events for STH... instead they do it by surprise

With all the staff that the NFL has? I find that difficult to believe.

I remember as a kid the schedules would be released in the newspaper in February or March, and that was before they implemented the current schedule rotation.

Has it gotten that much different since then?

I think so yes. So much weight on primetime games and keeping all the networks happy,  then the 4:00Pm national games etc, and they do try to keep travel as fair as possible. Then add in things like the international games and the added travel etc...someone did a special on how many iterations they go through that are "workable"..its something like 200-300 that a computer spits out...then humans take over and its a B word

Except that anyone who can sit through two hours and remain in suspense does not value their time very well...you can find out the schedule for any team within 30 seconds of release, depending on how fast your computer is?  :)
