Pennsyl-tucky Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 for the first time and could use some help. Aside from the Bills (I don't want to use my homer pick right off the bat) what NFL team seems like a good bet to win this week? This suicide pool is pretty basic; pick an NFL team each week to win outright (no point spreads, etc). You can only use a team one time per season and if you're wrong, you're out. Last man standing at the end of the season, wins the pot. So far, I like the Falcons over the 49ers, and the Bears for some reason. Any thoughts?
stuckincincy Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I thought you were going to tell us you visited John from Hemet.

OGTEleven Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 for the first time and could use some help. 20547 Isn't it always the first time (and last time) in a suicide pool? Don't do it man, it isn't worth it. As for any picks, why would I give that up when there is a survivor pool in the TBD contest? My picks will remain secret until I am eliminated (next week).
Like A Mofo Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Im in one too...and Id say take the Philadelphia Eagles...TO's first game...they are gonna be fired up
VABills Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I can think of a few folks that should join a "suicide" pool.
Guest Guest Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I'd say Eagles as well. Warner is terrible, and the Eagles will be fired up. That's the one game where I would be shocked if the underdog wins.
The Tomcat Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Im in one as well.....Phili is my pick this week....
ndmanley Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Rams or Texans. It is never a bad strategy to go with the team who is at home playing the Cards or the Chargers.
Like A Mofo Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I can think of a few folks that should join a "suicide" pool. 20575 I had Miami Week 1 last year...$o much for that LOL
Rico Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Patriots are the lock of the week, but they may be too high-profile to take this early... so I'd go with the Rams.
Rubes Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I thought you were going to tell us you visited John from Hemet. 20555 Outstanding!!!
Guest Guest_BuffOrange_* Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I did very well last year for my first time by using the following guidelines: Always pick a home team, try to avoid division matchups, and try to avoid picking teams that are coming off a short week. I'd stay away from Atlanta. The Bears wouldn't be a bad pick (even though it would violate Rule #2) because this is the only week you can take them, and you'd save all of your good teams. I did that last year by picking the Lions over the Cards in Week 1 when everyone else took Miami. Rams wouldn't be a bad pick either even though you'll have a lot of company with that pick.
BB2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I like the Pats over Indi this week. It looks deceiving but I think it won't be that close.
YOOOOOO Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I went with the Jets at home over the Bengals for TBD suicide pool....I would suggest saving teams like the Eagles, Patriots, Chiefs, Colts, Ravens, Panthers til later in the year...I'm wondering when i chance it and take the Giants...I reallly dont think they will win to many this season....
BillsGuyInMalta Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Go with the Texans...for some reason, they cant lose on opening day (plus...they are playing the Chargers and when else will you ever get a free shot like this to scratch a crappy team off your list while other people used good teams in Week One?)
KD in CA Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I like the Rams...at home v. the Cardinals. Should be pretty safe. Also, unlike years past, I don't feel the need to "save" the Rams...they aren't a lock against a lot of teams like they were a few years ago.
Pennsyl-tucky Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 Thanks for the tips! I really appreciate it. I've been in fantasy football leagues for years, but never a survivor/suicide pool. I am thinking of either the Texans or Ravens (over the Browns) because of their defense. Thanks for the help though!
Pete Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 I am picking whomever is playing the Chargers all season long. I figure I will be 12-0 there and only need to make 4 picks(the weeks the Bolts play their division rivals a second time) to go undefeated.
