More like music videos and the resulting drastic reduction in attention spans and requirement of the constant "next thing" resulting in news cycles and lack of patience.  I've been saying that for 30 years.

I had a friend in HS (this was long before AOL and MTV) who said he had a short attention span because he was raised on television. Plain old rabbit ears 6 channel TV.. He was way ahead of yall.

Was 3 for the first episode of Sessme Street, it taught me that learning was only good if quick and exciting and not that challenging

So... I wonder how much MZ is offering each congresscritter he's meeting with today before his hearings. A couple million each? More? After he shorted FB for a bunch several weeks ago, I wonder if the total amount of new FB political donations will match or surpass those numbers...

Just morning thoughts.

FACEBOOK Tracks People Who Are Not on FACEBOOK?

I amazes me of all the revelations coming out about FakeBook.  This particular one I've known about for abut 5 years.  If you go to a website that has the FakeBook logo, they track you wether you are on FakeBook or not.  Nobody knew though and blindly went about FakeBooks bidness without even knowing it (although they should have).

And all the yahoos who are going to be political grandstanding for the next 2 days don't know anything about this stuff either.

Whenever I hear Zuck or one of his minnions speak, it sounds like I'm reading government double speak straight out of 1984.

"It's clear now that we didn't do enough to prevent these tools from being used for harm as well. That goes for fake news, foreign interference in elections, and hate speech, as well as developers and data privacy," Zuckerberg said in the prepared remarks, which were released by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Monday.

Zuck started the world's largest personal data gathering exersize in the history of man kind but never thought that it may be mis used by neer do wells?  Really?  When designing a computer system on the internet, security is a major consideration for most people anyway.  But not good old Zuck I guess.  he just fell off of a computer turnip truck evidently.

Protecting people's data is completely antithetical to Facebook's business model of selling that data.

Noooo! Sheryl Sandberg said they NEVER sell the data...

That scares me, as I'm certain the answer to "From what?" includes "hurt feelings," and may include "Republicans."

Here's a quote from the COOof FakeBook:

Quote

"Because we thought the data had been deleted and we should have checked. You are right about that," Sandberg explained. "We thought [the data] had been deleted because they gave us assurances and it wasn’t until other people told us it wasn’t true but…"

Come on man, any Computer Science 101 student knows that you can never really delete anything from a computer especially in a data center that has backups.  Surely they aren't that naive.  But they know people that don't know squat about computers (probably 90% of their user base) will believe it.

 Regulating Facebook.  The government regulating a capability they wish they had.  Like that won't be a complete disaster.

I've been saying for 20 years, AOL IM marks the start of the downfall of western society.  I had no idea I'd be so literally correct.

Would you care to explain?  Just curious.  It's a very specific thesis.
