Cool good thing that draft order is the only thing in play. Yes them staying in the top six was important, but if buffalo was willing they absolutely had more to offer. Just wasn't what the Colts wanted. They lose almost nothing( just waiting two spots as Jets are taking QB) and either get their guy at 6 and pocket 3 free 2nds OR wait for a QB desperate team ( Bills?) to call if a guy is available and score EVEN MORE picks. Bottom line: Ballard wasn't moving to 12 at that time.

Bottom line: Ballard wasn't moving to 12 at that time. I understand the Colts position, the fact is, Buffalo had far more to offer than the Jets. Enough so that they have absolutely matched and vastly exceeded the Jets offer and still have plenty of picks. Beane didn't see it prudent to only get top three and not be in the driver seat. I'm not undervaluing the Colts only moving back to six by any stretch, but never does three second rounders trump three first rounders they undoubtedly could have gotten and then some. If you want to convince your self that 6 and three seconds is better than 12, two firsts and possibly a second and third, by all means. Because, here is the funny thing, the Colts could turn around and use a very small portion of what they got from us to potentially move back into the top ten. You have teams like the Buccs rumored to want to move back from seven, so there are avenues that could allow the colts to get into the top ten. But you are right that thing called draft order Edited April 4, 2018 by BillsFan17

It's not just the ammo it's what ammo you are willing to part with. Made something different happen than the Bills need to happen. They moved up 3 spots from a spot already in the top 10. The comparison is not apt. The Pats actually need to move up further than the Bills, and with less ammo. 1

The point is not the amount to have to give up but what you are willing to give up.
PIZ Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Couldn't they package their 23rd pick and a player to jump up like the Bills did?

They have a ton of holes and it depends on what BB is looking to do, one last farewell tour with TB - he fills the holes. His ego also wants to show the world he can win with out TB, so you cannot rule out him going to grab a TB replacement to rebuild the team and shoot to win without Tommy boy

Let's say the Bills spent all those picks including future first to get to 3. Jets could still jump them. Should Beane spend future first to MAYBE get a QB he likes at 3? The pick at 3 didn't offer much certainty of any specific player. Could be 2 QBs gone by then. Anyway, I don't think the Colts were going back to 12.... not yet.

KOKBILLS Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 For what it's worth... Howard and Jeremy had Chris Price of Boston Sports Journal on this AM...He said that yes, the Pats are taking a QB...But the reality is more along the Kyle Laulatta (he specifically said he thinks Laulatta is a Patsies-way kind of guy), Luke Falk area now...And he said that has moved up since before the Cooks trade when the thought was more along the Mike White's of this Draft...He said the Pats can now be flexible, move around, and look at a QB in the 2nd -3rd...He said he does not think the Pats would be looking at moving up for one of the top 5 QB's...Too many holes, they are looking to re-stock on D and along the O-Line...And he said Brady looks to be there for at least 2 more years... He also said Gronk is going nowhere...He admitted that the Belichick deal is wearing a bit on some of the long time guys...But says that usually wears off over the Summer breaks...
DefenseWins Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Best guess here is that the Bills didn't want to give up 3 1sts to the Colts for the 3rd best QB... If the Bills should have to give up 3 1sts they might as well trade up to #2 and get the guy they really want... Or maybe they have a handshake agreement in place with the Browns to get pick #4 if need be... All depends WHO the Bills really covet and WHO they might accept... So stay calm... "Trust in the Process"...

turftoe Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I wouldn't listen to anything he is telling about the Pats this time of year. He is a big time Pats homer.

They only really moved down two spots, not three, because they know the Jets are going QB. 3 to 12 is 8 spots because the Bils would go QB there.

Like A Mofo Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 This recent trade has exposed the majority of the national media for what they are: Craving teams like the Pats* to stay at the top, and also use them as a button push to piss off other fan bases and get listens and clicks. It works like a charm, and a lot of fans fall for the bait.

DCOrange Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 For what it's worth (I usually don't put much stock in his reports, but he seems really confident/in-depth with this one), Manish Mehta is saying that everyone in the top 10 knows that the Patriots want Baker Mayfield. He also says: The Jets are still divided about who to take at #3 They had Mayfield a tier below Darnold, Rosen, and Allen back when they made the trade up, but that may not be the case anymore Part of the reason the Jets traded up was out of fear that Buffalo would beat them to the punch The belief is that the Bills want Josh Allen (which obviously we already knew, but in conjunction with the Jets fear, I would guess that Allen was the leader in the clubhouse at the time of the trade at least) 1
